Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what you are in the process of becoming – Abraham/Ester Hicks
This sentence was hanging on my kitchen cupboard for the last 6 years. It made me aware of the fact that what I encounter in my life as positive or negative is not something that is sent to me from a higher force but is a reflection of how I encounter life.
Thoughts have a strong impact and influence on the way we look at life. They shape our belief systems and control our emotions. Emotions are responsible for our reactions. The more often we think about a thought, the more we believe it. May it be through repeated experiences we have built up an opinion, through the words we have heard of others or even a combination of both. And one day it is part of that belief system.
The belief system lies even deeper anchored within ourselves. From here we receive our reflexive directions. When familiar situations happen – even if the last time was years ago – the belief system opens the file and sends the stored message. What lies in the belief system defines our feelings. And here we go.
I recall the quote above: Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what you are in the process of becoming. What we feel is what we believe in. We don’t even think about it anymore. That is our personal truth. And we are living according to this personal truth. This truth again directs our thoughts reflexively. We see the world from that truth, we act from that truth, we talk from that truth, and we think from that truth. And we will see the consequences of this all unfolding in our life again. We can tell a lot (not everything) of the way our life is unfolding from what we believed about it in the first place.
Now when we want to become something different from what we see showing up now, we need to change our feelings. The feelings are the powerful wave that connects with the same energy in the outside world. But how to change feelings that are based on an automatic belief system? Just the same way as the belief system was programmed. We simply need to feed that belief system with different thoughts first. We cannot simply delete what we don’t want to think anymore. We must nullify the negative thought pattern with positive thoughts and then make a setup with the thoughts we want to create our feelings (actually, continue thinking the positive thoughts). Sounds more difficult than it is.
It definitely takes a lot of discipline, because the reflex of our belief system is strong. But once aware that it is in our hands what we decide to think makes it easier. We need to shift our thoughts from where they are to where we want them to be. Think from the end. Be what you want to find in your life. What do you want to find in your life? Look out and you will find it. Whenever the old view comes back, pause and look out again for what you actually want. Practice it again and again. It won’t take long – perhaps only days – and you have already reprogrammed a file in your belief system. Do that with every attitude you want to unfold differently in life. You will see within a very short time that something starts to change. You will perceive people differently and they will notice something is different about you. You radiate differently and that activates different reactions in your surrounding. Change in progress! Now see what happens. You will love it.
As long as you don’t believe/feel what you think, your thoughts will fade away into the air without any result. Your feeling tells you what you really believe. That’s why the feeling is the strongest creative power and has to be aligned with your needs.
That way I changed my life dramatically within half a year. I am very aware of what happens around me. Change means that some things fall apart in order to let new things unfold. I don’t resist upcoming challenges and struggles. They always show me that something new is on the way and that conditions need to get into a new order to make it happen. Right then, I am even more tempted to remain in a faithful state of mind in order to let my feelings work for happiness to unfold.
For some years now I am running up a stairway to heaven. Sometimes I stop to catch my breath and it can happen that I get a little dizzy when I look down. But not for long and my view goes up again to take the next step.
I leave you with one of my favorite quotes and life mantra:
Be the change you wish to see in the world – Mahatma Gandhi
You can make it! And you can start right now!

Erika, this is wonderful advice and Henry Ford ‘s quote resonates. Even in sports, such as golf or shooting basketball free throws, you are taught to visualize a successful shot to reinforce the belief you can do this. The confidence comes from the practice beforehand. Or, as the famous golfer, Gary Player, once responded to a reporter’s question about a lucky shot with “I have found the more I practice the luckier I get.” Great post, BTG

That is a great example and exactly what it is about. Yes, in sports we are taught to see the ball arriving where we want it to arrive even before we threw it. Thank you so much for adding such great thoughts, BTG. Have a great day 🙂

Very inspiring indeed Erike. I am just about starting my ‘new reality’ slowly but surely I WILL lose my conditioning and practice my meditation through Mindfulness.

A wonderful way to detach from old opinions. It is like the door into a new world that just opened up and you take the first deep breath while taking he first step.

It is amazing how our beliefs can affect our thoughts which affect our emotions which affect our actions. I definitely have some long-held thoughts about myself that are self-defeating and currently I am being shown in so many ways that I need to change my thinking and believe in my own abilities and talents. I really appreciated your blog and the insight it showed. I feel like often I am being brought to better places, even as I am struggling or complaining, then I realize it was all for the greater good. So besides trusting ourself, it is important to trust God and the design and know that good things are coming and change means growth.

Thank you for your wonderful comment, Karen. This is so true. When we trust in God, when we have faith, then we are open for the possibilities life brings. At the same time we detach ourselves from the need to control life. That is when things can change and when we allow new things to unfold. Changes in life are only showing up when we are ready for more. We need to remind ourselves to that in order to face the change with more ease and to faster welcome the blessing behind.

Right on. It goes hand in hand. Part of trust is letting go of control. I often think I will solve my problems by finding solutions for them, but sometimes it is the opposite. I have to give my problems up to God and let go of them in order to be open to the possibilities that already exist. My plan is not always what is best. Right now I feel I am more open than ever to receive what is in store for me. It is scary not quite knowing what that is…but I finally feel ready.

Exactly. This is amazing what you write. Wayne Dyer says: “You can’t solfe a problem with the same mind that created it.” We cannot find a solution as long as we stick to the problem. So very true. Your process reminds me to a huge breakthrough of letting go back in July. During that process I grabbed a book and read exactly what I needed: “… I trust in the force to guide me.” I said it again and again and I cried healing and comforting tears (not liberating tears like before). Then I read the words: “Let go and let God” (what you mentioned in your comment). I said it over and over and I felt like everything flew away up to a higher force, out of my hands for someone else to tace care of. From that moment on I was through it. It all was done within hours once I started. It already is an amazing feeling to make the decision to drop it. Right? Just fyi, here is the post: https://erikakind.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/she-let-go-she-embraced-she-is-back/
Thank you, Karen, for sharing this all. I appreciate it a lot!

Thank you so much with sharing your experience and what has helped you when you needed it. I feel like I want to lose control because that is better than having control but feeling helpless. At least if I offer it up, I know it is in better hands. LOL. I really like the first quote best. “You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”

Yes, that quote is very profound! And it is very understandable. It helped me a lot to step back and detach myself in order to stop identifying with the situation. When we stop identifying we realize that the situation isn’t part of ourselves. Otherwise we couldn’t detach. That realization already helps seeing the issue from a different perspective. Ideas, ways, or solutions occur.

It’s so true. We place most of our limitations on ourselves. Unlearning how to do something is the hardest part.

I completely agree. We programmed us for so many years or decades and we have to learn to reprogram us. But it is possible and that is the good news. Life is never the same after. It even is not the same anymore when we realize that we have it in hands to change something. Thank you for reading, Rob. I know your time is limited 🙂
