The quote above may look and sound familiar. Over the past weeks, I have written in different posts about taking responsibility and creating an inner concept to support your inner peace. A case in my family reminded me of this topic. Although I am an epicure, I never had problems with any addiction. Never! I even refused to get in touch with smoking, alcohol, or drugs. I have a strong sense of self-discipline (which can lead to other problems), but probably not to addictions. So, I don’t know how it feels to be addicted, and what I write here is based on my observations only. Maybe right that can be interesting.

Again, this week’s post was inspired by a person and her work I found on Instagram. (Yes, there is a lot more level on Instagram than this “important” self-display with posts about fingernails, new hair-dresses, pets, food, and sharing current activities). However, I saw excerpts of lectures from this amazing German woman, Vera Birkenbihl. She was a highly intelligent researcher, an inspiring speaker, and an impressive personality. She worked as a management trainer and non-fiction author. She scientifically explains what we feel as our inner struggles, even though we can’t name them, why they exist, why they are in our nature, and why we run into walls by denying them. I don’t know if her books have been translated into English, but if you google her name, you’ll find a flood of information. I saw several excerpts of her profound and humorous teachings. I don’t know if two of them were part of the same lecture, but they feel like problems and solutions.

I am following Eckhart Tolle on Instagram. Often, I don’t read or watch his posts or reels because I don’t have the time to watch everything. But this caught my attention. When something undesired happens in our lives, what is the first reaction? Probably resistance, desperation, frustration, or resignation? Maybe the first thing is that we shake our heads and sigh deeply. However, I don’t think the first reaction is: “Yes, it’s ok.”

But in the next moment, I shake my head and think again that nothing will improve just because a particular situation is over. Maybe it will be short-term, but since it is my thinking that labels a situation as difficult or challenging, the challenge is always with me.

A couple of weeks ago, Colin of meandray.com mentioned the quote (above) of a young woman called Jane Marczewski in a comment. I remembered that quote and immediately checked YouTube. 30-year-old Jane participated in the show America Got Talent. She had already beat cancer twice. But shortly before she got on stage, she was told that they found cancer in her liver, her lungs, and her spine. She had a two percent chance of surviving. She said: “I have a 2% chance of survival, but two percent is not 0%. 2% is something. And I wish people knew how amazing it is.” And she smiled all over her face. She also said that it is important to her that everyone knows that she is so much more than the bad things that happen to her. Although she had that diagnosis, she appeared so full of life and joy and was literally glowing. You will see it in the video I shared at the end of this post. Sadly, she passed away only a few months later.

During my latest break, I spent a few days in a SPA hotel. Just spoiling myself, being out in nature, and letting my thoughts come and go. I think I only made it through a page when I laid the book aside and asked myself what I actually believe. What do I believe about my role here in connection to every person? And what do I believe about my connection to God? Instantly, I felt the need to write everything down that started coming up like an eruption of a volcano. This is more or less a sequel from last week’s post to show how a perfectionist’s mind can get you in the way. A couple of weeks ago, I had this profound insight moment. You know I have published my latest book in May. I have done a lot of marketing in different areas since. As a self-publisher, this is not easy, but a lot of work. Then, aside from kind comments on the related posts, it seemed as if it was not recognized. After a while, I felt some frustration building up and I noticed that something was going wrong. This is not how I want things to be. This is not who I want to be. This is not who I am. With the distance, I looked at everything, I was not surprised that such an attitude (the book is only one outlet of that inner concept) can lead neither to satisfaction nor to health.

Many (or maybe most) people see God (or however you want to name Him, I prefer the term “universe”) as a separate entity. That is why religions have such power over their “sheep” since God is an individual power we are helplessly at His mercy. This separation is the main difficulty to align with love. As I understand and feel it, EVERYTHING is one. God is the only “thing”, the only energy, that exists. We and everything we see, hear, and feel are part of this only energy. His energy has split into countless parts, a universe, planets, minerals, and different life forms. But it is still ONE. We are ONE! We may have free will and separate bodies, but that is only the visible side. Nevertheless, we are ONE. Nothing can be lost because it is part of this universe – of God. We exist because God experiences Himself through everyone and everything. That is why everything that happens is orchestrated to perfectly connect different situations and experiences. We are God experiencing Himself in different stories. If so, why are we afraid to experience, try, and explore? God is eternal, and so are we. God is immortal. God cannot be harmed. That which we really are is safe!

I must have been 7 or 8 years old when I sat in the back of our car driving home. I had my hand resting on the armrest of the car door. It was in the 70s, and since there was no smartphone, tablet, or whatever, I was looking out of the window, thinking of everything and nothing when my eyes wandered to my hand. Lately, I had a discussion with my youngest son about receiving respect and being taken seriously by others regarding the constant competition between him and his older brother. For a teenager, there is a lot to cope with, for example, the changes that happen to your body, and at the same time to your developing confused mind. Then there is the pressure of school and the decisions about what to do after (another school, apprenticeship,…) which goes along with the challenge of getting an apprenticeship place. A lot to deal with that life brings naturally.

This year our equivalent of the American Thanksgiving Day took place on October 2. It is not such a big family celebration as in the USA. But for us, there is a different story behind it. As the name suggests, we celebrate it out of gratitude for nature’s gifts at harvest time and, therefore, always in the fall. There is Thanksgiving Sunday when the priest symbolically blesses harvest gifts during Mass. Although we don’t celebrate this day so exuberantly over here, I think it doesn’t hurt to share some necessary thoughts about gratitude again.

Lately, after work, I briefly strolled through my garden to see how everything is growing and blossoming. Briefly – or so I thought. Of course, I discovered weeds and more weeds. Not only are the days of many of us already filled with obligations, ideas, plans, visions, jobs, and tasks to do. But there is even more that we absorb, even though it may not concern us in the first place. Injustice, war, diseases, tragedies, natural disasters can burden a lot more than we may think. Although the days may be well balanced and nothing has actually changed in daily routines, still, there can be a feeling of sudden overwhelm. The walls may appear closer than before. Simple tasks or even everyday things feel like a burden, whereas before you didn’t even think about it. Or maybe some discussions or statements throw you off track that you usually don’t even ignore.
