The Fear to Succeed

So often we don’t start a project because we are afraid of failing. We are afraid of being questioned even before we started or before a result is shown. We are afraid of being criticized about how we do it or even THAT we do it. We are afraid that people are making fun of us because we are doing something they might have never dared to do. Or we are afraid because our project also means showing a part of our inner being, of the real person. But there comes a time when all these fears are not strong enough anymore to keep us from going for our dream. They cannot keep us from stepping out of our comfort zone anymore. We are full of excitement and enthusiasm and yes, we try it with all our heart and passion. And then it happens…. the door opens up!

Here is one example of my life that is one the most remarkable because it was one of the earliest of such experiences.

Many of you know that only 7 – 8 years back I would have never dared to talk in front of people, to share my own thoughts, to stand tall for what I believe in even when no one else believed in it. I would have never dared to say something at all without checking before if there are some who would agree with what I say. Otherwise, I said nothing at all. Then I had my breakthrough 7 years back. I only need to think of that moment and my eyes get watery because I will never forget that feeling of breaking down the walls of my prison.

Here I was, standing in my full light. That light made me see immediately where my path led and I started writing I’m Free – Awareness of Who You Are by Discovering Who You Are Not. I did not know nor did I want to think too far ahead if that book would ever be published but deep inside I knew exactly that this was the journey I was on and the destination I headed towards. When I was done with the manuscript, had given it to others for proofreading, and worked over it again, I felt ready to try something that felt simply impossible to me only 2 years before. I dialed the number of a publisher in order to ask if I may send them some excerpts. They accepted…… and I was full of fear!

Was I afraid that they wouldn’t like it? No, I was terrified that they would love it! The light definitely illuminated my path. It showed me all the things that are now coming my way and I felt overwhelmed in both positive and fearful ways. Can I handle this all? I could be taken seriously! But I was not used to it! I might have to speak about all the things I believe in and what I saw as blessings in life for everyone. But was I ready to do so? I have always dreamed about it but….. HELP…. it works out!!! I felt like losing control over the developments.

Thanks to my ego pride (yes, the ego can be very helpful) there was no way back… I had given myself a promise to never ever return to my old prison. And that means that I need to let my light shine in order to see the path… step by step! As you know, they accepted and my blog only exists because of the English version which was published two years after the release of the German book. Meanwhile, I have given several lectures, have written for newspapers, and have even given 3 English live radio interviews. I accept right away because I never want to give my brain the time to block the plans of my soul. I feel where I have to go and I will never stop following that inner feeling. Did get used to my light? No, not at all! It feels as if I discovered it every day anew. It is a bit scary…. but much more wonderful to see that the world stands wide open to me!

Sometimes we go for something and don’t really consider it to work out. We do it in order to grant our soul its peace because then we can say that we tried it. Even bigger is the surprise (or the shock) when it works. And it scares us a bit more because we feel mentally unprepared. Nothing stays the same anymore. But when things are going smoothly then it is the proof that it is your path and your time- whether your mind is believing it or not.

When we are not used to the bright shine of our light we can be shocked and scared by its immense creative power. The light that we are is pure creative energy. When we let our light shine and only then take action we are on our path and that path will always – all life long – lead to new places. Because we are meant to grow. We are meant to evolve. We are meant to LIVE! It is ok, to be irritated by your light because it is the most amazing power and it is even living within you. But never be scared of it. Trust, that it will always illuminate the path your soul chose way before it came into this body in order to fulfill its plan and give your life the sense and meaning you long for. Your soul is nothing else but the peace of the Almighty.

So when you let your light shine, God shines through you.
That is what the world needs so badly.

Hi, thank you so very much for reading my post and leaving such a nice comment. Yes, once you started experiencing how much life has to give when you went beyond fear you look at fear differently!

Totally right once you keep testing your boundaries you start to realize that what stands in your way are challenges of opportunity and not so much fear. We simply change the meaning we associate to the process. Keep up the great work!

Fear is a jail, no matter it is a jail, as we have created ourselves or because we are or have been forced by others.
Like Freddie Mercury was singing: I want to break free………………
We really need to have the inner wish about breaking free, before we do anything for serious, otherwise we will only do it half, which is nothing compared to, what it could be, the total freedom…..
It is a great post Erika and you should continue to write more books, if that makes you happy. All of us should do something to secure, that we live a happy life, like starting to do one little thing for yourself each day, this can grow too 😀

That is so true! The pressure from inside needs to be bigger than the pressure from outside in order to break free. But once that happens there is no turning back anymore because the liberation and the insight about the false belief is feeling too good and too powerful! I cannot wait to finally make time for translating my manuscript. Sharing these messages is my dream and I know that I will live it more and more the more time passes. It is so empowering! It is so true what you say. If we only do one thing that we really love every single day we are fueling that fire within and great things will grow from it! Such a wonderful comment, Irene! Thank you very much 💖

What an amazing post Erika, and not knowing your journey, its wonderful for me to read how far you have travelled my friend..
It is remarkable isn’t it how our lives are destined to turn a corner as we overcome our inbuilt fear.
Sometimes overcoming our childhood inhabitations, our shyness, or our lack of confidences
Although our paths of only just more or less recently crossed. :-), I feel so connected to your journey.
I too would never have thought in a million years I would also stand on a platform and be connecting the spirit world with an audience some times a room full of 60 plus, and nothing written down, just speaking from Spirit. 🙂
Life has a wonderful gift of guiding us. And your path was clearly guided as the right doors at the right time opened..
When you follow your instinct and KNOW that you are in your LIGHT, when you feel so full inside. That feeling of doing what you LOVE to do. There is no feeling like it..
I am so pleased dear Erika for you. And I know many more such books will be written.. WHY because you Love what you do, and you are meant to be doing what you Love..
Life just keeps getting better and better when we allow the Past fears to slip away and we live in our NOW of moments as we create each future ones in the Light of our Trust..

Excellent.. And I know you will Keep on Succeeding as Fear is left behind.

Love and continue shining your LIGHT dear Erika xxx

Oh, Sue… you don’t know how deeply you touched my heart with your words💖 I felt the connection too from the beginning on. That’s why I started following you. But what you just wrote is you reading me. You truly found your path. You share so much love and understanding. Yes, we only need to follow that inner feeling of passion, that fire that gets bigger and warmer the more we are connected to ourselves. One deep insight – the discovery about a misunderstanding we carried with us for so long – can change a life dramatically and so fast. It is truly amazing that you fill rooms with so many people coming to listen to you and you are fully in alignment and just speak from that connection. It is the most wonderful way to share the gift in such a personal and direct way. I am happy for you that this all is happening.
All happens for a reason, in its way, and in its time. It’s all good! Meeting you is one of those important encounters we have in life.
Thank you so much for being here and sharing your light, Sue 💖

Erika! Thanks for sharing this with us. We have to let our light guide us and maybe that will even illuminate the path for others. We all must be bold and hold our lights against the dark.

It is fantastic what you just said, Anthony! When we let our light shine others lose their fear to hide theirs. And through our light they find back to theirs. Thank you very much for your comment!

Empowering post, Erika! We cannot be afraid of the light within. We need to to let it shine and not keep it dim, in order to inspire others. Thank you for sharing this!

Ok so after I come back from my vacation, I might just quit my miserable day job and write a book. I’ll say Erika told me to do it. 😃 Actually, I’ve been thinking of quitting this dead end job for years already. Thank you for inspiring me. I think I’m headed there pretty soon. I’m getting to the point where I have to make a decision. I’m tired of waking up in the morning upset. I want a job I’m happy going to.

LOL…. But for sure, why staying in a job you hate only because you have that job now? Making a change and letting your light shine already means to turn around towards the things you want to. That already can bring a dramatic change in your daily life and perhaps even in your job! When people notice that you are detaching, their energy towards you might change too. You will see. But for sure it is a good idea to actively look for something else. Life is supposed to be fun and work should be part of it! Only the decision to go for a change can let that flame grow higher!!!

I think I’ve stayed for almost six years because it’s been hard to find something else. I asked to move to another department but they don’t want to do it. I planned on buying a house too so that’s another reason why I’ve stayed. I don’t get along with my boss. I cringe when I have to have a conversation with her. Ahh decisions decisions…the end is near! Lol. Maybe I’ll win big when I stop in Vegas on Wednesday. Lol.

OMG… yes, for Vegas… but please stop early enough if you are not winning soon…. lol! I am sure something will open up for you, Lisa! Once you adjust your antennas things might get in sight pretty soon! Huge hugs, dear!

These are feelings and fears that I think we don’t even realize many times! We sometimes stop in the middle when things look really good! For me, it is weird because whenever things start going well I start worrying! I think we are afraid to shine Erika! xxx Wonderful post as always!

Yes, exactly, Lynn! We are afraid to shine…. because we were often taught that we mustn’t…. and it is difficult to realize that we have the right to do it and that life actually is about letting our light shine. Because only then we feel alive 💖

Isn’t it so true? We are so powerful and once we let this power create our lives we need to take responsibility for what our power creates… I guess that is basically the fear behind! Would make a nice sequel… haha!

Exactly what I needed to read today. I have been doubting some future plans I made, and now, I can really give them the time they deserve. Thank you, Erika, for always bringing light into my day 🙂

That quote is one of the most amazing I have ever heard. It is so very true! I am glad you noticed it. It is so profound! Because when we are powerful and things work out then we need to take responsibility for our lives… and that can be scary!

To me it shows what someone needs to do, even before the success. First, don’t be scared of the dark as a metaphor for moving forward. As the thing you were scared of goes away with illumination. Second, as you become successful, you must pay your bills, so you will worry more about paying for that illumination. You will ask yourself, what do I need to illuminate as it costs money. VP Joe Biden had a great line from his Dad – if everything is important, nothing is important. So, where do you want to focus? Good post, Keith

Ah, you meant that quote! Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes, right! I wondered if that was recognized. I loved the metaphor and the humorous side in it. You totally saw that irony but also the meaning behind it! You explained that fabulous: Don’t be scared by the darkness and then don’t be scared by what comes with your light when dreams come true. Joe Bidon’s quote is fantastic too. Yes, when everything is important, so nothing stands out anymore. Awesome!!! I love your comments, Keith! Thank you so much 😊

Very thought-provoking, my friend. I admit it… I’m afraid of success. The light is inside me, and yet I’m scared to let it shine. Why? Failure, I guess. But If I don’t step out of my comfort zone, I’ll never truly experience what a beautiful feeling this could be!

As you say, ‘won’t be easy, but it will be worth it!’ – I’m going feel the fear, and let my light shine! 🙂

Thanks for the inspiring words, Erika! ❤️

Yes, that is the point, Amanda! We are feeling the light and oh how beautiful would it be to let it shine… but…. what if it won’t work out? Or what if it works out? If it won’t work out…. there frustration and embarrassment. If it works out…. there is the fear to enter a world we don’t know yet and what if we fail after entering? But as long as we don’t stop letting fear control our actions, our decisions, heck our life, it will be even more frustrating because we let fear win. It is normal to feel scared when starting something new because you don’t have any experience and don’t know what might come. But that doesn’t mean that you it won’t work great. We really should at least try it and risk the success! Believe me, I am still scared when I try something new, but I got used to it and I refuse to let fear direct me! Happened far too long!
Thank you so much reading and for leaving such a really great and open comment, Amanda! I am sure that many feel exactly like you…. I can relate so well to your words! 💖

There is a quote about change: “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.” – Anatole France
It just came to my mind. I think that is another aspect on that topic! We both can relate ot it very well, but we would never let us stop from keeping up the direction, right? 💖

Brilliant Erika. Some related quotes come to mind:

“If you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain…. do it!”

“If the worse case scenario is that nothing changes…. then go for it because you cannot lose!”

“Once you have made a decision, give it 110%. If it was a bad decision, you might just turn it into a good one. If it was a good decision to start with, you might just turn it into an excellent one. If it was an excellent decision to start with, then your sky is your limit!”

Wow, all fantastic quotes! They say it all! What can go wrong if you succeed…. only a change for the better! Thank you very much, Colin! I love the quotes!

Absolutely right! What is the problem? Often we simply look out more for reasons why something does not work out than for reasons it might work out! The human mind is weird! When there is a 50% chance that it won’t work there is also a 50% chance it can work. And even when there is only a 10% chance it is worth to at least try it!!!
