About 10 days ago I posted the quote above. The truth and wide message it holds went deep. Although I wrote some lines in Just A Thought… I feel like going a bit deeper into the subject.
Imagine a circle that displays the comfort zone. It is like an isolated island surrounded by everything else that exists. The most important and dramatic changes in our lives are not happening in our comfort zone. All inside our comfort zone is only what happened before in our lives. All we already experienced, and all we already know. If we want to develop we need to take a step over its border. We know that beyond that limit line lies an ocean of possibilities and options. All our potentials of growth find their tools beyond our comfort zone. And still, when we take that step over that limit line we enter open waters.
Whether we are aware of it or not, throughout our lives we are reaching that end of our comfort zone over and over again. That’s when new eras start when we change our jobs, when we try out or learn something new. This can happen by a conscious decision of ourselves or when life creates conditions that kick us out of that island and urge us to swim. However, we feel it when the time has come again to stretch the limit line of our comfort zone again. We feel an inner tension we may have tried to ignore for a while or we are given chances and ideas which won’t leave the mind anymore.
Perhaps we have no explanation for why all of a sudden this feeling appears in us or why this vision shows up. But all that comes up is only a result of the steps we made before and what lies in front of us to be meant to discover. Again, our soul doesn’t forget why it has come here and what it wanted to experience. It knows that path and will send us signs to keep moving. Yes, it is confusing and scary that although we know where we wish to arrive often we feel like paddling in open waters and hoping that the direction we paddle is the right one. One thing is for sure: We will arrive! We definitely will! It may be a stormy sea at times and we may not only be accompanied by dolphins but also by sharks. We will experience support and obstacles, in sunny and stormy times. But both the dolphins and the sharks support our journey.
What scares me so much is that we may need to let go of the liana before we hold the next one in our hands. And that is what holds us back for so long until our comfort zone has become too small and feels suffocating. The fear is not big enough anymore like the deep need to break that wall and let our grown self breathe again.
Before we don’t try, we cannot swim. Before we don’t swim, we cannot arrive. Swimming strengthens our muscles and once we reach the shore we step out of the water more powerful than ever before and well-prepared. Have faith in your journey. You are only on it because your soul guides you. So, either you dare to jump or you need to make sure that you are fine with what is, in awareness of the restriction of your possibilities. Don’t forget, you are not alone with that problem. You have 7 billion mates who deal with it every day too.
Stretch the limit line and feel how much more life has to offer!
We can never become more in sticking with what we already are!

This morning had brought a powerful awareness to me about comfort zone and where I am 🙂 Your post comes most timely to show me it indeed is time for me to take some steps off that island.

It is fascinating how the perfect things show up to confirm what we already know, isn’t it? I am happy that you found the determination to go for what you feel needs to be done!

You’d be surprised how many people leave you behind when you go beyond the circle.

Too many for sure! That’s why so often it is even more difficult when we see the majority backing off! But in the end, everybody needs to understand that it is not about the majority but about this one single person in the mirror!!

You said it best, Erika. Sadly, some of those people who have shut themselves off from me are family.

We can only broaden our horizons by stretching our boundaries. Thank you for a great and inspiring post!

So true! As long as we never dare to reach the horizon we will never find out how far we can get! Thank you very much!!

Great post, as usual Erika 🙂
We need to jump without being able to see, where we land. Otherwise we will never grow.
All good luck with a new laptop to you ❤

So true! Sometimes we need to jump blindly only knowing that the direction is the right one.
Thank you, Irene! Already typing on my new laptop. There is still a lot to set up but at least I can get back to my friends 💖

HI Erika – I have been following you for a long time now, and it is mainly because we appear to have similar perspectives on life. Your Posts are generally interesting, and very informative … but this one? This Post has to be up there with the best of them!
The importance of pushing the boundaries of our comfort zone cannot be stressed enough. I have read many articles about how people reflect on their life when the end is approaching and, very sadly, a common theme is “I wonder if I could ever have…….?” or “If only I had …….?” (and similar).
It is so important to really understand that life is NOT infinite here on earth. It WILL end for each of us. Procrastination, for whatever reason, is non-productive.
Push those comfort boundaries (you will learn so much); Make mistakes (so what? That’s how we learn!). When each of us reaches our senior years, wouldn’t we want to look back and say ” I had a good life!” …. “What a ride!” … “I shall certainly be remembered by quite a few people!” Have a wonderful day (what’s left of it where you are!). 🙂

You said so many important things here, Colin! Life is not infinite on earth and therefore we need to use the time we have because the possibilities to make it a life are infinite! Yes, all those excuses for not stepping over the limit and later all those regrets that it wasn’t done. I often said that the worst thing to me is regretting what I did not do although I could have done it. And yes, once my life comes to an end I want to be able to say that I filled my years with life!
Thank you so much for this amazing comment, Colin! We definitely have a very similar perspective on life and your comments are always inspiring and widening my horizon! Have a great day too, Colin!!

This is so true. After that jump when we did not know how we land makes us so proud and so strong. The most difficult times and the hardest decision we hang in make us grow immensely and as you said, the most!! Thank you, Beth!
