What do you see: Chance or Obstacle?

It looks like this is becoming the next sequel of a series of posts that seems to be chapters of a bigger post. This is what I replied to one of the comments to last week’s post What if … it works out?: We only need to change the second part of the question and the obstacle turns into a chance!

Do you know that? Out of the blue or in a steady development new opportunities are opening up. You are getting offers for a new job or a better position, and you see something that makes you think of taking new steps in learning something new or of going bigger in business. An idea of vision forms and you are thinking further. Then in your excitement, you are talking to a close person, and… you only hear reasons why things won’t work out or get counted all the obstacles that “may” occur.

The interesting part is that you have not denied the challenge that comes with it and you are well aware of possible obstacles. But for you, the new way that all of a sudden lies in front of you means so much to you that those obstacles are worth facing. You have a concept. You know where to start and you know where you want to arrive. But even though you are excited, you don’t stress yourself out with the thought that you already need to know the whole path. But you want to try it at least in order to know how it feels for you and if it is as you think it is. So you are excited to invite something new into your life, to expand yourself, your knowledge, and your experience. And wherever it may lead you, you can only win. Having someone sitting there with a shaking head is like trying to break your wings.

I can imagine that someone who focuses on how difficult changes and opportunities are cannot deal easily with people who always want to improve themselves. But on the other hand, wanting to improve myself and having a doubter around is not supportive either. There will always be obstacles on our way but they only show up in order to test your intention to go for your goal and that way they are preparing you even better to reach it.

There are countless possibilities to see in one single situation. The success of a project is not depending on the obstacles on the way but on what you focus on. It is an inner concept and results from what you see in an opportunity. That is what can define the success or failure of that project within the first moment. I don’t say we have to deny bumpy roads but to see them as part of the deal. For sure you will find more (or only) obstacles when you are searching for them. And perhaps searching for obstacles can also be a hint that you are looking for excuses because you actually don’t want to take the opportunity… for whatever reason ever. But if others are looking for excuses regarding your project they could even fear your determination to reach your goal – which they don’t dare to do!

Sometimes it is hard to be excited about something when getting such discouraging feedback although you know that it is the right thing to do. Don’t let them remove the battery and ruin your joy for yourself and your life. If you only share your plans without needing other people’s support, it doesn’t matter anyway. If you need their support then work even harder for it. Some people are not able to put themselves in your position. They cannot feel what you feel and don’t even make the effort to see a certain situation through your eyes. It is a point of view but it is your point of view that counts the most. Those may be the first obstacles that can show up and already test how clear, enthusiastic, and convinced you are about your project.

I am convinced that making it over a bumpy road by never losing focus on your goal out of sight makes reaching it even more valuable. Sometimes the harder it was to succeed the prouder you are of yourself, the more you grew from it, and the stronger you have become to keep growing! Don’t let anyone discourage you. It is up to you if you see the chance or the obstacle in opportunities. Go with the choice that brings you closer and which enhances your excitement and energy to hang in! At last, you will stand on that mountain look at the valley below, and shout out: I made it!!!

This is the perfect post for me this week Sis. As you know, in order to get into University, I have had to face one challenge after another! In some ways, I thought that it would be better to just give up, but I struggled on and one by one overcame them!! 🙂

It is all a matter of perspective…when we see a chance we move ahead. When we see an obstacle, we get wedged in between negative thoughts but only obstacles help us learn our strength and potential.
Thanks for the inspiring words and wonderful quotes.

You said it! Obstacles make us develop something within us which we wouldn’t without it. It is necessary to get prepared for bigger things. That’s why we always need to believe in the bigger pictuer when even we cannot see it! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, Balroop!

Such an important post to share here Erika..
The first thing that ‘breaks our wings’ is that others seemingly fail to share our faith in our abilities. So they condemn success before it has even got off the ground..
So know this side of the track..
Sometimes it’s because they themselves are scared of failure, or of even taking those first steps to take chances..

With all things new, there is a risk.. But understanding those pit falls, only benefits us. Because it means we are prepared for those bumps in the road, and so we look for them and we steer around them to avoid them happening.

I know from the steps I took throughout my own career days, the amounts of times I was told I could not do that.. And I would fail..
That often only made me more determined to succeed..
Climbing my own ladder throughout the textile industry from a machinist to becoming Training and Personnel Manager.. A span of 13 yrs.. From one step to another with many layers in between, from concept design Machining samples for the buyers to liaising with education and schools as I shared mentoring skills .. It took me even to other shores like Sri Lanka.. And if I had not followed my instincts of that Inner calling of feeling it was the right thing to do.. I would have still been machining clothes on the factory floor..

My biggest leap of faith was in taking a complete turnaround from the skills I had built up for 30 years to changing career tracks altogether.. Into support work..
That came after the universe intervened, as I never learned to say No, and kept getting more and more work piled on to me as the industry struggled, people left and never got replaced. As well as personal problems resulting in a breakdown..

But even that was all part of the road.. That particular Bump as I came down to earth with a big bang.. Showed me how to listen, when no one would be listening to me.. It showed me how others needed support an ear, and shoulder to lean on.. And helped secure me my next 11 yrs in support work..

So whatever it is you are contemplating.. And your heart tells you it ‘Feels’ right.. Then go for it Erika..
For even if it doesn’t work out.. The experience of it will never be wasted.. And who knows.. You might just be able to turn around and tell them.. ‘I told you so’

PS, I hope you will not mind me just pressing likes on the rest of your Posts this week.. as the garden is calling LOL ❤ xxxxxxxxx ❤ ❤

Sue, thank you so much for reading and getting so into detail with your comment. Yes, the ones who try to pull us away from our path are mostly those who couldn’t deal with it themselves and perhaps deep inside they fear we could succeed and they would feel even more failing.
Thank you for sharing your story. Yes, one step leads to another and from one open door we are led to the next. To lessons which preapre us for the next step to take and the next door to enter. It is a constant development. The more we follow our own voice the more we are feeling fulfilled in what we do. We might reach our goals anyway but much more satisfied when we did it our way! I wouldn’t be here If I had not changed this attitude dramatically several years ago. And I would not be in the middle of a dramatic change right now. It is not easy but I am proud of how far I have come because I know how scared I was!
Oh, no, sure I don’t mind it, Sue! I would not expect you all the time to leave a comment (most of all such detailed). But I appreciate them very much. Enjoy your garden. The weather is going down over here for the rest of the week! 💖

Whatever lies on your chosen path, is there to help you determine if you really want to achieve what you have set out to accomplish. Believe and watch it get done.

Great post, Erika 🙂
We will always meet people, who don’t dare to challenge themselves. This doesn’t mean, that we need to live in same way. Sometimes we need to look very straight not to be taken down by others fears.

That’s right! We need to believe in our own conviction and then others cannot make us insecure. Thank you very much, Irene! You are an example of sticking with your path and that’s why we met!
