And Sometimes, It’s The Body…

I recently saw a post on Instagram about stress relief. It recommended to gently press the area between your eyebrows for 30 seconds while slowing your breathing. That reminded me that not only do our thoughts have power over our bodies, but our bodies also have power over our thoughts (or at least influence them). We know that stress can arise from thought patterns such as: I have to be faster, I have to get this done, I have to understand this, I have to meet expectations, I have to succeed… and so on. These thoughts are reflexes, and by practicing pausing and transforming them, we can change our thought patterns and thus these reflexes. BUT….

… that is not everything. Stress can also be caused by the body itself, which confuses our thoughts. No matter what we try to think, if the issue in the body is not solved, we cannot control our emotions. Then it works the other way around. The body sends out signals that stimulate the brain and cause emotions before we even think about thinking. I remember when I was facing panic and anxiety attacks out of the blue several times a day. I was desperate because I could not handle it, not control it, and felt like I was going completely nuts. Also, sleeping was almost impossible. Either I could not sleep at all, or I woke up after two to three hours. None of my “tools” worked. Sometimes it was less bad, but I could not handle it. I blamed my life situation at that time (which was not an easy one), and for sure, it also played a part. However, the only thing I did not consider as the origin of all this was my body.

After 4 to 5 years, I started my last try on this and got my hormones checked. And here we go, they were completely out of the norm. I found a fantastic natural alternative to artificial hormones, which have no side effects on the body, but can be precisely adjusted to my hormone levels. My panic attacks decreased, and after 4 to 6 weeks, they were gone and have not come back since. That was the first time I realized that not only can thoughts affect the body and our emotions, but the body can also affect our emotions. Then our thoughts have only a very limited power over them. I understood that depression is nothing you can talk away with positive thinking; it is a disease and needs medication (at least for a first step).

We know that body, mind, and soul are one and affect one another. The art is finding out where the call comes from. If your emotions, anxiety, or stress are beginning to control you, it can be the world around you and your inability to detach, which is a task for your thoughts. But it can also be an issue in your body. So, if you cannot find an explanation, consider seeing a doctor. Take care of your body and get it checked regularly. It is not only about finding something, but also about prevention. After all, don’t forget that sometimes it can also be the soul pushing you towards a direction you should finally turn your mind to … or your body might react, too. This also proves again that body, mind, and soul must be in balance for us to feel well and be healthy.

In Love and Light

Please note:
I am not talking about obvious issues like brain injuries or diseases, or mental illness. That all has its origin in the body, of course, and has a big influence on the mind and the emotions.

This post just solidifies the fact that everything is connected. Our minds, bodies, souls, the Universe. There is no separation. Thank you for sharing and glad you found the right balance!

Did you have those attacks since childhood? Also something to ask were those attacks linked to overall anxiety?

There was one moment too, last year starting from may till June or July to say… I went through terrible panic attacks, honestly it felt like dying, and like you said both the body, mind and soul were affected. I knew I wasn’t gonna make it.

But just like magic, we moved to another place and I got a job at a road construction company, the condition slowly faded till I was sleeping okay.

But the anxiety and fear still remained, now it’s like each day sometimes feels more lighter. Just curious about the hormones! How did doctors prescribe them to you?

It is such a powerful path we stand on, so many things changing and us trying to decipher so much. But the fact that we do try to find those origins, to correct them and attempt that balance, is a beautiful, loving, healing process…and to become that happiness in doing so is a wisdom all it’s own on daring that path. Great post Erika, your journey shared also helps another to do just that too 🤗❤️🙏
