After I had published Trust The Journey a couple of weeks ago, I remembered this post I shared 7 years ago as my first post of the year. It not only goes along so well with “Trust The Journey” but also works as a good reminder for starting a new year. Here we go:
On the last day of 2018, I shared some thoughts about the connection between how everything that happens leads us to the place we are today. That also means that, no matter how we may feel about our lives, we have never been as experienced as we are today. We are the best versions of ourselves in this very moment.
There are setbacks, of course. We start something with enthusiasm and passion. Or something beautiful seems to open up for us. And it is demotivating to see this all falling apart, although we put so much lifeblood and effort into it. But that doesn’t mean you failed. Yes, sometimes situations can repeat. Sometimes they repeat because we did not get the whole meaning. Sometimes we need to take a detour to pack something in our backpack that we need to continue our journey on the main street.
What I want to say with this: Whatever you do, whatever step you take, whatever decision you make, how you act or react, it brings you further but never back! Every experience leaves an insight. So never let anyone tell you that you failed. It is your way, not their way. Life will help you to repeat or to go deeper. It is not a punishment; it is to support our growth. Even if we cannot understand the meaning or see the greater context when we are in the middle of difficult times – and perhaps we never will – there is always a greater reason behind everything that happens. And the more we follow our inner compass, the faster we will get past it and reach the end of the valley.
Believe in yourself, believe in wise guidance, and believe that in the end, all will be fine. Looking back, you will be proud to look down that mountain you just climbed and see that it was worth all the effort. Every little or bigger obstacle you face and overcome will make the joy of the view bigger.
If this year throws stones at you, build beautiful castles from it or solid stepstones. From the ruins of broken dreams or relationships, build bridges. Nothing that exists gets lost. It only needs to be placed together in a new way. This world is in deep need of new architecture assembled from our own inner healing flames of love and the desire to make it one peaceful paradise for everyone. We are created from love, and our natural being is love. Let’s let our true selves shine. The change is already happening. Let’s not get discouraged by any seeming setbacks. Let’s take each other by the hand, follow the light our hearts shine, and we can never fail.

Fully agreeable! 🙂 Without experiences we wouldn`t be able to proceed to the best. Best wishes, Michael

Exactly, Michael. And everybody has to make their own experiences individually since we experience everything different. Thanks and have a nice evening.

The one thing I will never forget Erika, was that moment I saw through and understood my fear, and could see every step in my trail right up to that point…each and every step, be it forward or back, did indeed help me to grow and reach where I now was. It was a most profound thing to see that it all indeed had a purpose so I could reach that place, that beauty, that love, ever in me. Great post kind lady 🤗❤️🙏

Thank you, Mark. I think, it is those moments we are working towards with every little thing we experience and decided. We want to see clearly when even we would like to have it the gentle way. But no shell breaks by caressing… 💖

When we can look at every experience as a learning experience whether good or bad, then we can maintain an encouraging outlook as we move forward in life. As you said, there are no failures or setbacks only steps to guide us.

Right, and those step need to be discovered to walk a path consciously and sustainably. When something does not turn out the way you hoped for or expected it, then ask yourself “what was my part in it”.

Take accountability and responsibility, yes.

No surprises from here Erica as I totally agree (as you knew I would!) with everything in this Post. As long as we acknowledge the value of learning, then failure cannot exist. We can always learn something from the experience and, if we learn something ……… we have not failed. We have simply grown in an unexpected direction.
Of course it could be argued that failing to (e.g.) achieve a specific goal is a failing, but I would argue “No … it isn’t” We must ask ourselves why, and then contemplate the answer(s). Perhaps we did not prepare well enough (lesson: prepare more responsibly). Perhaps we fell short of a preliminary expectation (lesson: research to see if situation can be resolved for the future or, if not, allow that “door” to close and look for another to open).
Then there are the “failed” relationships? Certainly not! Any failed relationship provides opportunities for reflection and growth so how can anything be considered a failure if we learn and grow from it?
From a purely personal perspective, I believe that we all have to deal with failure, but it is not at a personal level but rather at a Government level. There is a failure in our education system to prepare students for the current world, as the system is still based on the concepts of 200 years ago. I use the term “failure” in this context because the decision makers are not learning from so many research papers on the issues of our education system. ……. but I digress! I must learn not to do that! 🙂

And no surprise that I totally agree with your comment. As I use to say: we don’t fail we make experiences. That’s it! Life is a string of experieneces that take us further. I like the possible “lessons” you mentioned. That is all experiences are for (regardless how the experience is perceived): check the lesson in it. So, it can be to change something, to work harder, to stay on track, to change the direction, or whatever. There are as many possibilities as there are souls on this planet since everyone creates their own path by choosing the way they experience their lives. Every perception of experience makes them choose the next step that causes new experiences. But whom do I tell… hehe. You see, I enjoy it a lot to exchange thoughts with you and get inspired.
Have a great day, Colin!
