Isn’t it a pain when you love doing something (or have a lot of interests), but together everything goes beyond your daily or weekly agenda? You are used to giving 100% of whatever you do, when too many particular activities need too much room at times, you cannot guarantee the quality. Plus your mental health can be affectd.
If we try to keep up with everything, the mind takes over and calls us to fulfill our “obligation”, which only happens out of habit. But when the mind pushes, the heart probably gets left behind. Also, we need to be careful not to be torn apart between the things we love. Consequently, we could lose the joy of it all, which must not happen. So, we sometimes need to prioritize, or the quality of our actions will suffer badly on all ends.
Some bear more and some less. Some enjoy being in action all day long until they go to bed. Some others are already overwhelmed when they have three appointments in a week. However, we are not off-the-shelf products, and everyone is entitled to pull the plug when they feel it’s necessary. Nothing is worth burnout, and life shall be enjoyed, no matter the agenda. However, it requires setting priorities, which vary from person to person.
I have been doing this during the past weeks and will continue even more over the next two months. My business’s main season is Christmas. The preparations regarding the stock began months ago. Nevertheless, a few weeks ago, my mind spit out another product idea that I could not resist realizing for this season. The preparations for the upcoming Christmas markets (which cover several whole weekends) are in full swing now. Whoever participated once knows what this means regarding the organization. Since I am in a demanding employment, too, time needs to be managed well.
Still, Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and am determined to enjoy it again, no matter the turmoil around. I won’t be stressed during December since I set my priorities early on and thoughtfully (it is easy regarding Christma since it is always at the same time in the year). Until the end of the year, blogging may be a very low priority for me. As explained above, it is not because of disinterest, but because of a necessary strategy to make it joyful and healthy through the coming weeks. So, posts may appear or not, and I may appear or not. But when I show up, I will be here with all my heart.
Always take care of your heart
Even in the most stressful times
you need to create room
for it to smile.

Erika, I love the two bannered quotes. They frame the issue nicely. We spend so much time doing what others want and need. As for the balance, I love the line that women can have it all, but not at the same time.
I am reminded of the talented actor couple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. They chose to alternate years on whose career should be the family focus, while the other was the major family caretaker. They flipped back and forth. Sedgwick had a terrific TV series called “The Closer” and earlier Bacon had a series of successful movies, eg. I thought this “created” balance is an extraordinary plan.

I did not that know about Bacon and Sedgwick. That is amazing and so appreciative towards both partners while the center of the interest is the family. Very cool!!

For many a whole load is coming together and we must not feel guilty for skipping this or that for our own mental physical health. Thank you, dear Lisa!

This is a timely and needful post. We need to consider priorities. So much of what we stress ourselves about isn’t really important. It’s good to do what’s important then add the extras if we choose. You don’t have to cook everything in the kitchen! Enjoy!

That’s the point! We are so used to doing this and that that we forget that we don’t have to keep up with everything all the time. Once this is more important, once that is more important – depending on the consumption of time or how much is coming together at the same time. And some things are not important at all anymore. But we are so used to fulfull our “obligations” that we don’t even consider that we are entitled to reconsider and set priorities.

It is a balancing act Erika, prioritizing many things as only Christmas can 🤣 But I have found that in those crazy times that all the work we put in actually allows us to appreciate a lot more what we have worked towards.
Yes, tiring, but an ability to see ourselves in another light and see if this what we want. Is it worth it, and even beyond that, how can we do it so that it is more enjoyable. As in defining how we approach it, work it, and reach an acceptance of what we are doing.
I hope it all goes well kind lady, and an appreciation of what you have done for it 🤗❤️🙏

That’s a good point! When times get really busy, you find out how much passion and love you have for what you do… or if there are simply still options to approve the process.
You know, I am not afraid of this time coming (actually I am already deeply in everything). I am a good planner and I am still in control and I set priorities. But I felt the subject could be interesting for many who are struggling every year again😄

Indeed Erika, it is a crazy time. Mingled with bursts of stress for some but also those happy bits as we meet up old friends, achieve different goals, presents etc. Maybe that is what the New Year is for, celebrate getting over that crazy, happy period…and rest. More opposites 🤣❤️🙏

Who knows, maybe it is 😂 To me the holiday season has always a different energy. It feels as if it was easier for love to shine through our bodies. Maybe that is why I love the season so much, I feel different, and I won’t let anyone take that away from me💖

Well said Erika, it does indeed just have a whole new energy of its own. I think love comes to the surface so much easier and shared much more openly. Mmm, maybe that is what is wrong…we fight it trying to ‘do’ everything when it should be done in a more happy and relaxed way. Celebrate our ‘work’ so to speak and not have ‘life stress’ enter into it 🤗❤️🙏

I completely agree! When I say, I am going to work or I have to work (what work ever), my mom is like “Oh, no, that’s bad”. Why is “work” a negative word for so many? Maybe because they never liked their work, I have no other explanation. Work can be fun. That reminds me of a quote “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Mark Twain.

That is so true Erika. When I did my Remedial Massage Therapy I enjoyed every day. I even had other workers there peeved because I was so cheery coming to work every day. It was indeed a blessing, and your words spot on 🤣❤️🙏

I needed that right now, to be honest. My taurus nature is in a boil right now. I only need some time to calm again… lol

Both sides of the coin Erika, so we can appreciate what we are in doing them. Patience is a strange creature, but when we listen it sings a delightful tune…if we have time 🤣❤️🙏

Life can overwhelm us and at the same time we can overwhelm ourselves with life. As long as you have the personal strategy to navigate the activity in your life, all will work out well despite the tense moments that may occur. I wish you continued success, joy and creative passion in all that you do 🌞

There are periods when a lot can come together. If we think we have to keep up with everything the moment will come when we suffer from burnout or quit everthing. We better pause some of our activities for a while before we lose our joy. Thank you, and I wish you the same 🌞

A pause here and there will help refresh the mind and heart as we continue onward. You’re welcome and I thank you ☺️

We simply need to check the current situation and act accordingly. Not everything has always the same importance.

I found it fascinating that the last 10 years of my working life were quite pressured and included many meetings and presentations. Did that all go away with retirement? Yes ….. it did, but “pressure” came as a complete and total surprise to me from a totally different direction.
I settled into retirement very easily and extremely happily. My days were mine to do with as I wish … or at least that was my belief. For the most part, that was, and is, quite correct, but a whole new perspective is interfering. I can get frustrated because I have an appointment next week …… and two more in December!!!
I have to get my head around the fact that I am not being cheated out of retirement and must simply adapt to a lifestyle that will always present occasional commitments! Life is certainly a “head game” in so many ways eh!

I can relate well to what you said. The opposite happens to me. I love routines. About 15 to 20 years ago, I felt stressed when anything added to my nicely scheduled routines. Today, I need to react much more flexible and push so much more into a day than at that time. So, yes, I agree, it is a matter of adapting the mind. That only proves how subjective this is perceived by everyone. Thank you, Colin.

You bring up a good point. When we spread ourselves too thin we have a tendency to get “divided hearts” and such hearts quickly lose the ability to feel passion for anything. It happens to so many in the holiday season. Planning ahead where your priorities are going to lie is so wise.

That’s it: we lose the passion for something that use to fill our hearts. And that must not happen only due to too much on our plates. Thank you for your thoughts, Joseph!

I have had it happen in my own life. With me the danger of burnout is highest when I live from the place of false guilt and fear of what others will think.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I hear you well! That is toxic for anything you love doing. Been there too. Once I realized that this false guilt and fear are only my interpretation but has nothing to do with what I am obliged or entitled to, I promised myself to never go there again. So, let’s do what we love and love what we do, right?
