Today, I want to share an as touching as insightful thought, inspired by a poem Colin, of MeAndRay, shared with me a few weeks ago.
Why do so many people strive for an image that doesn’t suit them at all? Why do so many orient themselves primarily to what society demands at the moment and adapt their personality to it? Why do so many not orient themselves to their abilities, and their gifts, which they can develop and pass on? Yes, it is not always easy to pursue your dreams and ignore the reality that pays your bills. You can’t just walk away and leave behind those you’ve taken responsibility for. But even then, you can still work step by step to achieve your dreams, as long as you are determined enough.
However, the greatest success and inner fulfillment comes from sharing what you bring to the table. Again, it comes down to being as authentic and true as you can be. The more you infuse your essence into what you do, the higher the quality of what you produce. Because then your passion and enthusiasm are released, and you do it for the joy and for the sake of giving. The greatest joy is to make people happy with something that makes you happy AND to be the person you want to be. What more beautiful task and way of life could you ask for in this life?
It is about living one’s destiny. This destiny may change in the course of our development. But as long as you are on the path, life will not stop feeling like a great gift and a blessing so easily. Share your own melody and it will be the most enchanting composition.
Following this, I am sharing a beautiful poem that goes to the core of this matter with deep empathy. It was the inspiration for this post. My thanks go to Colin, of MeAndRay, for offering me to share it.
Just a Rose
I have not moved in years.
Just stayed right here and grown.
Caused many, many smiles
But… tears I have also known.
***
Some were of joy
But… sadly… not all.
Some were caused by sorrow,
As far as I recall.
***
I love to offer my blooms
To anybody so inclined.
I hope they’re for a loved one
But… if not, I really don’t mind.
***
As long as they’re appreciated,
My life is not in vain.
Bringing happiness or solace,
To me it’s much the same.
***
For my blooms have served a purpose.
What more could I possibly do?
Ask for some sun, and a little rain,
And produce more blooms for you!
***
My life is really simple.
I want for just the basic things.
Food, water, and a caring hand.
Just see what beauty that brings.
***
But you humans are so complicated.
You want more … almost by default.
You all seem so confused
And you’re no happier as a result.
***
Food, water, and a caring hand
Is what I would wish for you.
You would see so much change…
And be so much happier to.
***
Is learning from a rose
Such a difficult thing to see?
Providing happiness or solace…
What better life purpose could there be?
***
I just live from day to day.
Very simple to you I suppose,
But my life is so rewarding,
Even though I am… just a rose.
***
Such simplicity you probably cannot grasp.
It’s really basic, but do you really see,
That a rose can only be a rose,
But you have choices… what could you be?

Beautiful poem and I can understand why you were so inspired. Simply if we just be ourselves and embrace our unique and gifted being, then we will come to understand our purpose and truly find a rewarding and blessed life. Have a wonderful week ahead, Erika 🌞

My pleasure Erika. When we think of something like a rose, and acknowledge the response from us that it can generate; When we acknowledge the relative simplicity of it as compared to the complexities of us, it gives us an interesting topic for discussion about our own contributions to life.
It will be argued, of course, that we humans gave the rose the significance that it has in our lives today so is it a valid comparison. I would suggest that it is very valid, in the context that if we can attribute such importance and significance to a rose, then why do so many of us have such an issue with attaching importance and significance to ourselves.
I might question what we can learn from a rose, but there is no doubt in my mind that we can learn from what we have done to the rose and apply it to our future. Perhaps today is the time to reflect, and perhaps ask ourselves the rather delicate question – If I were to die tomorrow, what legacies would I leave behind?
Perhaps now, is a very good time to consider whether we are really on the road that we want to be on?

Your comment would make another thought-provoking yet insightful poem again.
I agree that too many give importance to anything but not themselves and vice versa. In my eyes, both have to do with low self-esteem. But as soon as we give importance to ourselves AND to what is around us (in an appreciative way), we align with what is, honor the creation, and what we created (through appreciation). We then see the wonder of life and the preciousness of the uniqueness in everything. Which also makes us honor our own uniqueness that we bring into the world. That also means that we honor what we have been gifted with and show our gratitude by simply living the purpose we feel inside – regardless of how society, neighbors, friends, or anyone thinks about it.
Right now is the right time to question if we are on purpose, and in each moment it is – the individual as well as the collective purpose.
Thank you for the thoughts you shared, Colin, and again thank you for the inspiring poem.

What a wonderful uplifting post, Erika! This sentence resonates so deeply with me: “The more you infuse your essence into what you do, the higher the quality of what you produce.” That is what I strive for with every piece of writing I produce. Have a wonderful day!

I cannot talk for everybody but to me, your heart is shining through every line you are writing. Whatever you are sharing, I can feel your being shining through it. To me, it is obvious that love is the driving force that makes you do what you do. Thank you for that, Jan 💖

I think we all need that reminder from time to time, when life catches up with all its obligations and responsibilities. But we need to be careful not to use them as excuses for not being the person we are meant to become.

I have a friend who seems to be “stuck”. She needs to relocate from NYC, but can’t make herself do it.

It is not always easy to leave everything behind and take a step into an unknown life in which everything has to be set up anew (inkluding friends). Often people are more scared to make a new start than to leave something familiar when even they don’t like it.

Don’t get me wrong. I used to be there. Even though it was a difficult road, I used to say, “Yes, but I know how to manage that.” Comfort can be found even in discomfort. Make sense? 😜

A very beautiful post dear lady, and the verse a healing too. We do struggle don’t we, but without it nothing could be found. To begin we are given great training to live but it takes much wisdom to make a life. I suppose it is when we are shown a beautiful poem on a rose that makes us stop and think of its wonder…and begin another dream…or read the story of a dream in another to know it can be found. Courage takes heart, heart takes love, and love…well…with the words of this post it is comforting to know it is indeed all around to guide us truly ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

Your comments never cease to add depth to whatever I write, Mark. Yes, it needs the struggle for that we are called to dig for what else is there inside of us waiting to be released. As you say, it takes courage, heart, love… and if there is love, courage is only a consequence. Maybe, we only need the courage to love and everything else falls into place… Thank you so much for your inspiring and wise comment, Mark 💖

Only when we do what we are meant to do we can develop into who we are meant to become.
