Sometimes there is a vision, a dream, an idea of something that is stirring your heart or that fills you with the passion of an adventurer. But often, following such dreams means taking a step out of the known and into the middle of the unknown. Fear, insecurity, and confusion may creep in and perhaps you distance yourself from that dream.
But how shall we ever fill our lives with purpose when we deny ourselves what our soul reminds us to go for? Mostly, it is not even about the goal to achieve but to break out of our comfort zone. Development already lies in the decision to leave the shore with the faith in the heart that the new shore will be reached. The goal is only the carrot which makes the donkey move…

Erika, I really loved the Christopher Columbus quote and I haven’t heard it before. However, the timing is interesting because I’m currently writing a poem about two Irish Famine Orphan girls who emigrated to Sydney in 1850 but died less than a year later after they piled into an overcrowded dingy with 7 others and capsized in Sydney Harbour. They drowned along with three others and 4 people made it to safety. While we shouldn’t let fear stop us from setting out on the journey, we also need to ensure we’re prepared and not taking unnecessary risks. Sometimes what we perceive as fear, isn’t fear at all but trouble shooting sending off warning bells.
Best wishes,
Rowena

There is a very important difference between fear and instinct! Backing off because we are afraid of taking new roads is limiting us but of course we need to listen to our gut feeling when we smell danger! Thank you very much for your very appreciated comment, Rowena!

Right! Only that can bring you further. It may be scary but sometimes we need to accept it as part of our journey. Thank you very much!

Great post Erika, we do also need to enjoy the ride and not only go for the goal alone 🙂

Yes, absolutely! It is the path that counts because we spend so much time on it. The goal is the reward!

That quote caught my attention immediately. Sometimes we only know the direction and perhaps the goal but how and when we will reach it can be an unknown factor.

It’s so true, isn’t it? The biggest achievements or developments need that courage to walk into the unknown. The belief in our arriving is all we need.
