#JustAThought… Decide to Like it

Lately, we were driving somewhere, and our middle child was with us in the car. We talked about winter and the cold and my son said, “Since I decided to like November, there is no month anymore I don’t like.” I was surprised to hear it coming from him so naturally.

It bothered him to not like something that he could not avoid encountering every year. So, he simply made the decision to like it. And he does like it because, from that moment on, he only looked at the good things about this “matter”. When someone only sees the positive parts of something, what is there that is not to like?

This topic is nothing new to me. I keep saying we should find a way to accept what we can’t change: “Do what you love and love what you do.” But I had to (re)learn it step by step as an adult when I was in my late 30s. For my 25-year-old son, on the other hand, it seemed natural to just change his attitude so as not to make life artificially difficult for him. He has kept a straight, close, and centered connection to a solid source of trust and wisdom. Unlike me and many others, he has never lost this inner unity with himself when he grew up. Thinking back, he resisted letting anyone change this about him. This is why he is able to react flexibly to changing circumstances and naturally focuses on solutions to look and move ahead.

Let’s find that inner foundation again which we only need to access to get the confidence, self-esteem, stability, and power we need to dance through this life with a smile on our faces – regardless of what it has in store for us. I think it would be wonderful to “decide” our frustration away…

The purpose of my blog is to inspire and shine a light on the beauty and power of the wonderful being inside your body. You came into this world to share what only you can give. Remember who you really are, conquer the world the way you always wanted to, and become the blessing to all of us that you were meant to be.

When I think of all the time I have wasted worrying about stuff out of my control or not liking something, then feeling negative about everything, the words of your son are ones I wished I’d also said, Erika. There’s nothing better than a positive attitude about everything in life. It makes perfect sense.

Doesn’t it? In the end, we are only a decision away from a different feeling about us or what surrounds us. As Maya Angelou said: “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” Thank you, Hugh.

I love this! Your son making the choice to “like November” made me bust a smile. Choosing our attitude and changing it to live a more fulfilling life is like a superpower. You have a very wise son. 🙂

When he said that, I stopped breathing for a moment. That is what I am sharing and what I am working at, and he just does it. He is one of the most centered persons I know. Thank you very much, Diana 💖

That’s the little secret we all hold within and can apply it instantly. Why ever we unlearned it, we still have the power. As you said, our feelings and reactions are a choice, not an obligation.

Once again, we witness the power of our thoughts and that we are the ones that have control over them. A simple shift and choice to see good instead of negativity makes all the difference in the world!

Right, a conscious choice is all it needs. I decide to like it, I decide to be more patient. In being more patient, I see more ways to explain something from different angles. Because then my focus is on trying to convey knowledge and not being right. From their I may even get another view myself. The power of thoughts can change lives, and we are the creative changers. It is amazing! You are so right: What a world this would be!

Once we take the negativity off and try to see something in a different way, a whole new perspective opens up. We need to keep our mindset on a higher level than what confronts us.

In some way “distance” is the magic word (about which I write in a future post). When we distance we see a bigger picture and also see ourselves not in the center of it anymore. It is easier to develop serenity and positive views from a distance. Thank you!

Oh, yes, you are so right. Probably I learned more from him than he learned from me (which he could not develop on his own anyway). I am glad to hear about your son, Darlene. Such a joy!

What an amazing article, my friend. Even more so, your son’s fortitude and wisdom! Choosing to see the positive, holding fast to the truth he already knows inside him! That’s the real stuff! Yay! ❤️❤️❤️

He is so centered and grounded, and has always been that way. I am glad my efforts to “teach” him did not work out. He is a great person 😊Thank you, dear Karla 💖

I thought I knew everything Erika, and out of the mouths of babes I have been flattened many a time 🤣

He is a trooper, to hold something so powerful he has learned something that will hold him true for the rest of his life. It will get tested at times but it is indeed a very good foundation for life 🤗❤️🙏

Oh, yes, he especially is so within himself that he is so close to his power. Maybe that is why he cannot understand others who are seeking for hold and solutions in spirituality since he has used to be so naturally connected to the source all life long.

I think the children of this time (and many adults, Erika, Karla 🤗), are more spiritually connected, are much closer in their hearts. But that can be a two way street because some find that change, and like any change, has its hard bits. And because they are so young struggle with that changeover. But he seems to have done well, early, and can stand within what he was taught and found in your home Erika. I know we have to do many pathways so we can understand it all but there seems to be a speed up, a new way, and hopefully that change we are all looking for…in and out 🤗❤️🙏

It always appeared to me that he has his clear path engraved in his heart and mind. He is full of natural trust and optimism (which he took quite a lot advantage of as a little boy when he played unburdened and without any fear… I always thought, he had an army of guardian angels). He never lost the connection. And the older he becomes the stronger he grows his roots AND wings. Amazing young man!
