Lately, the older of my two sons graduated with really great success. My younger son wasn’t amused that he had to attend the celebration but there was a deeper meaning that we forced him to be there… although we did not know about it before.
My younger son is in the process of deciding which apprenticeship he wants to start. He needs to apply this year in October. He is not someone who likes to go to school and makes big efforts to learn. At least he finally knows a direction of where to head regarding a profession. Now during the graduation ceremony of his brother, all of a sudden something in his attitude changed. He started asking questions about the general qualification for university entrance. The profession he had in mind to learn is chemical laboratory worker. But during that evening he went a step further. He wants to study it and he asked questions about how to get that qualification. He instantly checked the internet about several options like schools and classes. And we found a way with which he not only could get this qualification but which would also provide a foundation from where he could go in many other directions in case he changed his mind.
At one point I said to him: “I absolutely love the direction you think and you will get all support that’s needed. But you need to be aware of the fact that this means you had to go to school for 3 or 4 more years.” His response made my jaw drop. He said: “I want to study chemistry. And I want to find the fastest possible way to get there. If it means going to school then so be it. Sometimes you need to take a different direction than you planned in order to reach your target.” Wow, was that my 14-year-old son who was fine when scratching on the limit?
It made me think of myself. When I started looking for a job last year I did not want to make a career. I wanted to have something I do what I have to do and have my granted salary at the end of the month. One year later, I am working almost full time instead of 50%, I am the direct assistant of the founder, and lately have become part of the management… and I love it! Things changed and something within me started to develop in a direction I had not expected. I let it happen because what opened up within me filled me so much that I could let it flow in all I did. The feedback from the outside world and the chances and opportunities that opened up for me again increased that flow which widened the field even more.
Everything starts with a thought. A thought, that triggers something within. When we are not afraid to let that thought develop within us and follow the little pushes from inside then we make the important first step which gets the ball rolling. That is all that was needed. Now we only need to follow the hints and take given chances. A small trail can turn into a highway from one moment to another and you are riding on the road of your purpose. That way you will come across everything you need for the further journey to even greater fulfillment. Once you experienced this you are not afraid anymore to take the step into a new field. It really is about taking that one step from a thought to the first little realization. You never know what greater purpose is behind it but you need to make that first step in order to find out.
I have no idea if the plan my son had for the evening will be to walk to the end but what I know is that in that moment he may have found the entrance to his highway.

That’s great that he found a spark of inspiration there even though he didn’t want to be there at first. I hope his inspiration continues to develop.

Witnessing this moment was amazing. I felt exactly what was going on and what transformation took place. I still have goosebumps when I recall his determination and clarity… and he still has it and is more passionate about it than before. Thank you so much for your wishes, Syl!!

Oh I am so pleased for your youngest Son, and congratulations too on your eldest graduating.. Wonderful..
Its hard at times being a parent, often we nudge our children hoping they will take the steps in the right direction.. Its not easy being a 14 yr old and having to decide what it is you want to do that will shape the rest of your life.
I remember how my own Son struggled and he went into himself for a time.. And it was hard to pull him up and out of his self-imposed shell he had built around himself.. But thankfully he did ok.. As did my daughter.
Whatever triggered and motivated your Son to suddenly KNOW that was the direction he needed to take.. It struck a chord within him and he went with the flow of it..
We both now know in hindsight that when we ‘Feel’ something is right and we just let it flow and go with it, it usually means it will pan out and develop further.. We use our instincts now more and more as we have learnt through our past and seen how when we are not focused then our direction is more chaotic and unclear..
So true. What we think we create.. And understanding that in fact we can achieve ANY thing we want to, if we focus upon it with the correct intention.. It empowers us to grow.. And doing the things we love, brings that energy in line.. So we bring more of the same around us..
I always love your deeper philosophical posts dearest Erika. And I wish your Son well with his new enthusiasm of his focused new pathway in his educational curriculum.
Love and Blessings dear Friend.. Xxx ❤ ❤

Sue, you are touching my heart with your comment. You are so right and I truly feel what you say while reading. We are at that point that when we feel it, we follow it because we trust that inner compass by experience and I can only say I never went faster upwards in my life than during the past year. The more we let it flow the faster and higher we fly. It is indescribable. Thank you for this amazing comment, Sue and for always taking so much time. I hope you know how much I appreciate it 💖

And tell you what … even though I am getting increasingly ancient and creaky, I am still filled with ambition and wonder. It is so good to see your son taking these steps and yourself too of course. I expect you know the phrase in Latin … ‘Plus Ultra’ ((Further Beyond). So many things to pursue. Bon chance! Chris.
