#JustAThought… About Time

When I had this quote by Eckhart Tolle on my mind, I was pretty sure I had written a post about it already. But since I could not find it, I wrote a new one with my current thoughts, which even took me a step further.

Nothing lasts forever… we all know, but when our world turns upside down, it is hard to hang on to that thought. However, change is an inevitable part of our lives, and in the end, it only helps us to surface from it strengthened and wiser than before. Change can force us to work things out in ourselves, to take a step we avoided as long as we could, to overcome fears, or to discover a potential we had never thought was lingering inside. How relieved are we when situations relax, when health is back, when life becomes “normal” again, or when we feel the ground beneath our feet? Change is inevitable, but it is temporary until the circumstances rearrange. When we solve a problem, how wise and full of self-esteem do we feel? How smart and how superior compared to the rest of the world? Oh, what a feeling… which, too, will pass😄

While thinking about this all, something essential came to my mind. Is it the moment that passes? Can a moment pass? Because we learned that it is always NOW! So, NOW can never pass, actually, right? I concluded that not the moment passes but the appearance of the moment. It is always THIS moment, but it can show different faces. This, again, makes it easier for me to accept the theory that time is an illusion. There is no past, no future – only THIS MOMENT! What we create now makes us provoke the moment to change its look. The only thing that disturbs this thought a bit is our agenda and the daily look into the mirror. We do age, which makes us hang on to the thought that time passes. But that only counts for any physical appearance. And even when our bodies die, we still exist. Also, here, it is only the form, the appearance, that changes. I can imagine that once I leave my body, I leave the imagination of time behind, too. I know there are tons of questions that begin to flutter around me. But they are all based on my physical life. Those who are meditating know that while meditating, you leave the mind (which is part of your physical existence) and align with your spirit. In that condition, you are one with everything. You let go of any attachment, and everything you feel is this moment. For the duration of the meditative state, the moment stands still.

There is another point I want to make here: If you find yourself worrying, then you think about something in the future. But the future does not exist, and neither does the past. Consciously concentrate on the present moment, on the NOW. Ask yourself what is wrong with this very moment. Nothing, right now, all is well. And that is all that matters. Of course, we are planning and organizing, but we need to do this with the awareness that what we plan for does not exist (yet). What exists is this moment only in which we are doing the planning. If worrying is attached to the future only, worrying is an unnecessary imagination that destroys us.

Wow, that’s quite a few thoughts in this post written in a flow. What do you think?

Well written Erika, we do the worry thing often, afraid of what may come. But hopefully as ‘time’ goes by, we let it go. In fact, as time goes by ‘things’ have less and less importance, time loses its hold. Maybe its getting us ready for that timeless place, that unconditional place of where our destination is, and time is not. Great post my friend, thank you for the ‘timeless’ share 🤗🤣❤️🙏

Thank so much, Mark. I appreciate your words.

That’s so right, time helps us to get distanced from specific situations. Once we understand that it is us holding on to that situaiton and that it is not real anymore, we could accelerate the process. And maybe, with some practice, stay in the moment and look at what happened and may happen with a distance, not identifying ourselves with it anymore.

Thank you very much for your thoughts in this comment. Unfortunately, I forget it too often and get lost in worries about possible things to come. But this way, I can pull myself back into the present moment and this ALWAYS worked.

All we really have is the here and now and the experience that comes with it. Worrying doesn’t change anything, it only ramps up our imagination about a perceived outcome. When it comes to time, man invented the clock but what is a day but daylight to nightlight and we exist within those parameters. You delivered quite a few things to think about with this flow of thoughts. Awesome.

Your words speak to me. With a constant and complete rational mind we might be in the moment much better, because anything else simply doesn’t make any sense. I like how you defined “time”. It is actually too. Maybe man needs a frame in which they move around. Maybe that gives some kind of security, when even it restricts the mind again. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Sylvester!

Yes, when we are in that awareness the moment makes much more sense. Man definitely needs the framework to stay in motion or be motionless. You’re welcome and thank you for your flow of thoughts in this post.

It takes great discipline to remain cheerful when the odds are not in one’s favour. Sometimes you give your best but somehow you just don’t get the breakthrough you strongly deserve. But I guess moments of setbacks will pass and remaining positive and cheerful in the face of disappointments is better. Because being upset doesn’t make it any better.

Hi, Ngozi, I agree, we reflexively worry or get lost in negative thinking, desperation or fear. It is because we have programmed ourselves that way over the years due to what we were taught and how we put that together with our experiences.

However, we can reprogram and as you said, being upset doesn’t make anything better. You’re only depriving yourself of beautiful moments.

Yes, the face of the moment will change and we can force that process in the way what we want it to look. A being with an inner concept of happiness is not less realistic but it knows that difficulties are temporary. And the happy attitude helps to get over them faster and smoother.

It is a process… but we can program ourselves to make it a new reflex.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this, Ngozi 💖
