Keep Going – Really Always?

The past weeks have become more and more challenging. Highly inspired I started a new but big and time-consuming project (I am developing specific skincare products). Unfortunately, next to my job (which is also becoming more and more of a challenge), my therapy practice, duties everywhere, appointments, and the rare time left to see my children, I try to squeeze this into the weekends and evenings. I have been feeling like a robot for weeks.

I am one of those who recognize and catch chances when they show up. I am not willing to change this. But sometimes it is so challenging to follow your passion and still listen to the reason in your mind that says “Don’t overwhelm yourself”! It is hard to put the things we love to do in second place because we have to put those in the first place which we need to make a living. Our determination and pride can become a dictator because we think we are weak or failing when we put our plans aside to be able to breathe and make sure we don’t run out of battery. Too often we are honest with ourselves when physical or mental problems show up.

Sometimes we have to step back and pause. Again, I encourage everybody to fulfill their visions and dreams. Don’t let them pass. But it is not worth it to risk your health. And when it is not an excuse then do yourself a favor and pause. It doesn’t mean you are weak. It doesn’t mean you failed. It doesn’t mean you mustn’t do it. It only means: wait, take care of yourself, and don’t feel guilty about not obeying your own pressure or the pressure of anyone else around you! There is a time for everything. Sometimes you progress faster in slowing down. Because when you overdo it and stress yourself out it only results in health problems. But by taking your time it may even be that solutions show up you might have not seen otherwise because you are so focused on scheduling your days to squeeze everything in.

It is rather frustrating to put those things you love to do behind those you don’t like or even cannot stand to do. We should never give up on realizing our dreams. But at times, we may have to slow down for the sake of our health. It doesn’t matter when you achieve something and how you achieve it. It matters that you are feeling good while you are achieving it or it may not have the quality or effect you want to experience.

Don’t give up on your dreams but don’t hang yourself on them!

Remember who you really are, conquer the world the way you always wanted to, and become the blessing to us all that you were meant to be.

Wow you sound busy like I was my friend. I remember thinking I barely have time to recover before the next day starts. That came to a screeching halt back in June ’18. Took me a month to recover and rest. Now I’m 8 months of rested up and ready to start a new career. Who would of thought at this age I would be starting over but I am. I highly recommend enjoying those things you love! Listening to the body when it’s tired, which I never did till I had to. 😀 Blessings to you Erika I’m so happy you are doing well and you always make a difference 💜xo

Yes, like you I am a fighter. The word giving up does not exist. There is only one direction: upwards and forward. We function and as you said, we mostly only recognice when our body stops us. I have to postpone my projects which is really hard. But for now, I cannot give up on my job because I have to make a living. That is the bittersweet decision to make. But health comes first and postponong doesn’t mean quitting. I definitely don’t!!

AWE yes I know that. I think it’s okay to take little breaks and also maybe during those times more wonderful ways and ideas come to our minds to make it easier. I’m waiting for that part LOL 😀

I love that video and it always centers and calmes me again. Yes, although we would rather go for our dreams, sometimes we have to be patient for the sake of our health!
Thank you for your inspiring words. Sylvester!

You’re welcome! That is a great video. I know it is hard concerning dreams when you don’t know when or how but as you said, sometimes we have to be patient for the sake of our health.

You seem to feel the power of my desparation and frustration I was in yesterday when I wrote it. I felt on the verge to a burn-out. It is not fun to put aside what you would love to do but in order to survive it needs the conscious decision and the knowing that it is only temporary.
From those situations we learn most, right? Thank you very much, Annette!

When I am in a position of potentially being overwhelmed, I have a simple process to go through which resolves everything (really!). I write down all the things that I need to do at that moment, and then ask myself a very simple question – Which ones will seriously impact my life if they are not done today. The result (for me) has always been a short list on which to focus. 🙂

I got you! Basically I set those priorities quickly. Otherwise I had gotten my book translated and published already. The problem is when you have to push aside those things that you feel passionate about (but are not “important”) for those you have to do but. Sometimes it really needs the strictness to put your happy project aside in order to find the time to breathe… and then get it going again!

Absolutely Erika. Sometimes those “preferred jobs” have to be delayed while the more life changing ones are addressed however, there is some latitude in that if your preferred work is personally very rewarding … that it can legitimately be life changing in terms of your personal growth and, on that basis be given some priority. The whole point (for me) is to be able to focus on what really matters, and not get distracted by less important issues. To do that, one has to accept the reality of only 24 hours in a day, some which is dictated by sleep and meals! For many people, it is also a good idea to document time not being spent on goals … and it can be surprising how many hours they “find” in a day which can be used more productively! Always nice “chatting” with you Erika. 🙂

Now this comment actually sums up my whole post… lol! Yes, I agree with each word. And as you said, the day has 24 hours – no matter what – in order to not lose ourselves we need to focus on the necessary in the first place, leave room to breathe, and fill the rest with going for everything else. Thank you for this important comment, Colin.

One step at a time. That’s how we walk around to be from one place to another and this is something exactly what we do while following our passion and dreams.
Wishing you all the best with your new project, Erika 🙂

Yes, one step at a time, Hammad. Sometimes it is difficult when there is so much you would like to do but at the same time you are limited by the daily duties which cannot be wiped away for the moment. But step by step solutions will appear. Thank you very much, Hammad. It is exciting!!

It is such a think line between hanging in and owverwhelming ourselves. It shouldn’t be an excuse but at the same time, we don’t need to feel like failing when we postpone it. We know best why we do it and we dont need to explain anything to anyone. I am sure your post is exactly what had to be written and shared! I will head over to read your post right away!
