Have you ever wanted something so badly, only to see it not work out, despite your best efforts? That can bring us into a dilemma: Carry on or let go?

But I could feel it physically that these gray, cold, and wet conditions during almost the whole month of July were about to leave something. Although I am sleeping surprisingly well, I am more tired and lack energy. I caught myself accepting and dwelling in that lazy mood, which was not helpful. I understand that people who already tend towards depression can get soaked up in a negative mood. Realizing this, I asked myself Now what do I do about it? First thing: I started writing this post to distance myself from the problem and get into observation and solution mode. That is always one of the best ways for me to resolve an issue or at least find approaches to get there.

When times are busy, you often don’t have the time to deal with happenings as you should. Your emotions must wait until you find a spot in your agenda to turn to your inner being. Sometimes, you may even forget that to take care of yourself and what happened settled deep and is hard to find again. But it is there and can haunt you and surface unexpectedly. Maybe you don’t even remember, what the reason for specific feelings was.

I should let it flow rather than make such efforts to make my mind present an idea. What a fitting analogy to my sinusitis… I see your point, universe.

In the past, I often talked about how sometimes we need to let go of something to make room for something else. I still believe this is when you must decide whether to go left or right. But I also talked about how not everything is only black or white. Our lives are vivid mixtures of shades which means EVERYTHING between black AND white. It is not always necessarily a “yes” or “no”. Mostly it is a “yes, but” or a “no, but”. That “but” is the actual challenge.

Every other week, I publish an audio meditation on my website erikakind.com. Usually, I do group meditations in person, but due to the Corona situation, I switch to the audio option. However, the topic of this week is bringing clarity, balance, and steadfastness into life. To achieve that, we need to let go of illusions or self-imposed pressure due to the requirements we set ourselves.

What happened once is long ago
Regrets and guilt won’t change it though
And all the wounds, well, quite a lot
From all the bullets others shot
I think it’s time to let them heal
And stop to make it a big deal
Too long I kept the past alive
And cut myself with its sharp knife
Too long I carried it along
And kept myself from moving on
I look above and see the sky
Was it ever so blue and high?
There’s so much room to just be me
I’m letting go and flying free

When I saw the topic I thought immediately of an older post in which I shared a poem about Letting Go. Letting Go is not only releasing something that weighed heavily and kept you from living. The process itself is progress in your own development and growth. It means you have already grown bigger than the suffocating cocoon. That’s why you are ready to break its shell. Letting Go is a process of becoming!

When I posted a quote about forgiving two weeks ago there was a suggestion to write a post about it because the subject is really big! I knew I already had posted about it. Since I am pretty consumed by life at the moment, I thought why not repost one? It also makes a nice sequel to last week’s Monday post:
Were you ever in a great and happy mood and then out of the blue you were flushed by feelings that caused a deep sadness? And you don’t even know why? That happened to me last Friday. We had great weather, I was happy and cheerful, and all of a sudden I had a song in mind that I did not hear for years. I love that song a lot but while I started singing it heavy desperation kicked in and I didn’t know why.

Maybe even old friends you share so many memories with, friends for whom you were there without asking. Sometimes we know the reason but sometimes we don’t and only assume what the reason could have been. We try to find out and ask what we might have done wrong. We apologize. Sometimes they don’t even react to our questions or any apology dies away seemingly unheard. I think it is some of the hardest things to experience when you are left alone with uncertainty and feelings of guilt, or you be simply ignored.

Letting go is a topic in everybody’s life at times. Yesterday I was talking to a friend and I realized that during the past weeks, more and more friends are posting about letting go or about their process of letting go. There are so many different reasons or stories behind it. May it be about love, about plans we made, about disappointments, or being hurt. But in the end, we can mostly sum it up to two points:
