During our lifetimes, we encounter so many people. With some, we are working, some become friends, some people become very close, and some are part of our families. We meet people every day. Some leave their marks, although the meeting was brief and unexpected. Some encounters we forget right away, while some we would love to forget but have to deal with due to our job or because they belong to the family.

We never know for how long we are destined to be with everyone. Maybe for a “lifetime”, a moment, or a period. My best friend and I have been friends for 42 years. There was a time of approximately 10 years when we had barely any contact since we had different life situations and lived in different parts of the world. It did not change anything about our friendship. When we continued meeting more actively again, we appreciated our friendship even more. The backpack of our lives has been filled with experience, and we can be there for each other better than ever before.

I think it is not in the amount of being together with someone all the time. It is the connection from heart to heart. The connection is there, no matter where you are or what you do, and not only when you meet physically. Sometimes, you may think a relationship develops in a particular direction, and it may even look like it for quite a while, but then it takes a turn. It doesn’t necessarily mean the relationship ends. It may only change its purpose.

There are two former spouses of my sister I have had a good relationship with. That did not change when they separated. They came into my life for a reason, which is what I am thankful for. I always say it doesn’t matter how we met but that we did. Life has ways to connect people in the perfect moment and to loosen or change that bond again when the purpose of the connection is fulfilled. But soulmates are soulmates. That’s why I am always curious when I meet new people. Sometimes, the reason for the meeting is obvious, and sometimes the actual purpose appears only later. The only important thing was the meeting to get the plan started.
