Winter Wonderland

After the heavy snowfall that gave us record amounts of snow in less than two days, we had the most glorious winter day yesterday. Of course, we had to go for a walk through the closer neighborhood. Most of the paths were impossible to walk. In some places, individual people had already tried to make their way through the high masses of snow. It was still a big challenge to follow in the footsteps of the others and to stay stable. The snow cover reached almost to my waist. When walking through the snow, I sank in partly far above my knees. It was fun!

Here you have some impressions:

The sign says: Rent a bike – 24 hrs for free
I don’t think anyone will take advantage of this in the next few days.

It was a joy to have a real winter again like we were used to here in the Alps. More “joy” from above is coming down right now. I wonder how the streets will look like tomorrow morning when I have to drive to work. But until then, I will enjoy the season in its natural look.

That was yesterday. And yes, I enjoyed a lot! It is long ago that we had such a great winter experience. Since last night it has been snowing again.

I am not the type of person that loves skiing or playing in the snow but I love the scenery which is so inspiring and shows another face of the beauty of creation.

Good decision. You won’t go deep into a snow drift. I have a friend who grew up in New England. He and his future wife drove off the road into a large snow drift and got stuck. It was a little dicey for awhile.

Joyful, joyful, cleansing snow. Your images are beautiful Erika. Snow fell in many places. Even we had around four inches on Thursday. Nothing compared to yours 😉. Sending love, and well wishes my friend. ,❤️🙏💖

It might not last too long anymore. The warm winds we are having in central Europe is changing places with the winter deep… so, maybe at the end of the week there may be nothing left. But I do enjoy it as long as possible… hehe.

You are absolutely right, David. Thank God, there were only few paths we had to make our own way through. My grown-up children gathered yesterday at the hill next to our house for sledding down (like in old days). My daughter was exhausted from walking in that deep snow… lol
Thanks a lot, David. We will see how it looks like. Thank God, basically it is not too far away.
Huge hugs back, dear David!

Hey wait a minute, how come you didn’t have a shot of you making angels in the snow. All that whiteboard everywhere and not an adventurous imprint anywhere 😂 🤣
But I have to admit, the temperature may have reduced giving that a go anyway. It wouldn’t be too nice having soggy sleeves and pants. And if you had laid down on one of those white fields you may have disappeared into some cavity and not be found till summer 😂 🤣
They are amazing shots though Erika, there is a little bit of snow depth there all over 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

Haha, you say it, Mark! No chance on snow angels. If I had let myself fall into that deep snow, I would have turned into an angel because I would have suffocated. One of my sons (21 and a lot taller than I am) did it for fun yesterday and fell into panic since he was buried in snow and could not breathe.
I am glad you enjoyed the winter scenery, Mark!

I thought if you trod on the snow it compacted even though you drop down a bit but I suppose if it only ‘falls’ lightly it will be ‘fluffy’ in nature and you will drop much further. I suppose out in the open fields etc it can be dangerous. Here I was thinking of all that fun but it has a dangerous side to it as well 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

Yes, it is dangerous indeed! As with always, too much can be unhealthy! Also, on the weekend a few avalanches got loose. This is the other side of winter wonderland.

Ooh, forgot about those things. Now that would indeed keep you on your toes if you lived at the base of some of those mountains, the slightest rumble would have you on edge all the time.
The only rumble I get is the surf, but that just gives a sign that the louder it is the bigger it is and ‘surfs up’ 😂 🤣

Oh, yes, indeed! Basically most of the regions are checked for avalanches but still it can happen that some villages to catch an avalanche. It depends on the conditions but it can happen. So, simply take care that the rumble doesn’t get too loud or you should consider it a tsunami!
