How is it that beautiful memories can make you cry? Even though all the people involved are still with you. When I listened to the song I am sharing tomorrow, suddenly, I was taken back to our Christmas in Williamsville, Buffalo. A string of single moments appeared, and I felt the joy again of spending these days with our little daughter. Just the three of us. A time when new traditions were born.
Sometimes moments, that seem long forgotten, are popping up in your mind as if they belonged to a movie but not to your life. Moments that you may not have considered as special back then. Still, they suddenly fly at you effortlessly like mischievous, playful elves, and they catch your heart with both hands and kiss it. Our subconscious mind stores more than we can imagine. It absorbs everything around you like a sponge. Some bubbles are on the surface, and you giggle them away. Others need some deeper moisture until they find their way to the surface, and when they pop, you are even more touched because they catch you by surprise.
I pondered if I got moved that much because I valued that moment too little past then. But no, absolutely not. It is not sadness that comes up but rather a deeply felt gratitude. Just because that moment has meant so much, it is still there as colorful and alive. All the countless meaningful moments get stored inside of us. We cannot think of them all the time, so many may rest until something opens a little window to let them flutter around in your heart.
Memories that make you cry because they were so beautiful prove that you were there with all your heart… or so I think.
