Dare To Live Your Difference!

I often talk about our uniqueness, about how special “assembled” everyone is in all they are – body, skills, interests, dislikes, challenges, purposes,… In being open to that everybody can benefit a lot from the ways of looking at life, approaching challenges, being successful, being happy, living the purpose, and overcoming obstacles… We are not different in order to compete with each other but in order to inspire each other and in order to pass on experience and knowledge.

There are two tricky things. In order to inspire each other, the individual needs to be receptive and open to it AND the individual needs to be open and able to share personal experiences too which means: the individual needs to be as authentic as possible! Now here we go…

I have always loved to surround myself with things that were not “the norm”. I loved unique things away from their “regular” appearance. I liked all that was different. I liked the uniqueness of things… and I dreamed of being different… Yes, I dreamed of it because I lived as much as possible according to common rules or rules I was meant to obey because I did not know them better. In one way I was told to live my uniqueness but in another way, it had to happen in a particular frame… confusing, to say the least. And that made me always observe what I was expected to do in order to fit the frame. The uniqueness was buried but it was still there of course.

We have everything within us that makes us us! Things we all have in common may connect at some levels but what is admired, appreciated, and valued is what distinguishes us from each other. We all admire people who are able to do things we are not able to do – artists, math experts, … So why are we afraid to share what is special about us? Of course, it is this insecurity we were trained in as I mentioned above. At a certain point in our lives, we need that spark of encouragement to be ourselves. If we don’t get it then (or if we are repeatedly discouraged) it can result in insecurity and the little plant that starts growing is stamped to the ground.

But nevertheless, the roots are still there. That plant is still growing inside of us over and over again. We often stamp on it again when it grows too big and gets in the way while we are busy conforming. Anyway, what is part of us cannot be erased as long as we exist and the plant will again grow and stand in our way to remind us what we are actually here for! At some point it makes us think or we forgot to stamp on the plant and it grew so big that we have to recognize it. It is the time!

You are a rose. Check out your color. You have a unique hue – perhaps similar to others but still different. Perhaps you are even a rainbow rose. Whatever color comes from you is what makes others stand in awe because they have never seen a rose like you. So don’t cover yourself gray in order to hide who you really are. We all want to be recognized for who we are. We all want to be appreciated not for what we achieve but for who we are. And we can get there. But it only works out when I start sharing who I am. Of course, then we cannot blame others anymore for who we are but need to take responsibility. But that’s the way it goes. Taking responsibility for who you are, makes you stronger and motivates you to show even more of who you are. Step by step you let more sunlight shine on your plant and it will grow and blossom brighter, bigger, and more beautiful than you had ever imagined!

Erika I simply love this post!!!! Thank you, this is AWESOME!!! Have you very seen the music video called, Speak Life, by TobyMac? I think you would really like it, and one of the quotes here has a hash tag for it. Thanks again for your post – one of my favorites.

Needless to say, I loved this Post! It says everything that I have endeavored to project over many years. A wonderful message there Erika. As Leo Buscaglia once noted “Be the best person you can possibly be… because you can never be anybody else!”

Thanks a lot, Colin!! As far as I know you I can imagine very well that it spoke to you! We can only be ourselves anyway but sometimes it is a long way to find out what is “I” and what is still left from others… perhaps we’ll never get it completely done but then again this is part of our devlopment, isn’t it? Anyway, I think we are very close as long as we can stand behind ourselves and our decisions and like you said with that quote, we simply need to be the best possible person! That’s all it needs!

Very inspiring post. It’s sad that we judge and are judged about almost everything in life, always comparing each other.. but like the famous quote says, be yourself because everyone else is taken.✨

Thank you very much, Lee. That was a great comment. I love that quote a lot! Yes, it is sad indeed. But we live in a world of hot and cold, light and dark… and we learn from it. But the big insight is that the one is not better or worse than the other but it simply is. And that it is a tool that helps us finding out what we want and what we don’t want and about the consequences. I think one of the greatest achievements is the simple observation of things without judging and only seeing them as happenings for our growth process!

That’s exactly how I see it. No ones life is better we all have our own battles to face. We just fight differently. I try to observe things as best I can before judging but I never try to judge anything a person has no control over. We should all try to spread more positivity in the world, everyone is always looking for the next drama in someone else’s life

It is so very true. We all have one goal in the very end and we all want to feel good but we have different ways to approach this! You mentioned an interesting point here. Yes, it is much easier to look at someone else’s life than at our own. Because that would mean we had to take responsibility than pointing with our fingers!!

In this weird world that we live in, we are judged constantly for what we do, say, think, believe, wear…the list is endless. The only way out of this for me has been to look the world in the eye and say I don’t bloody care! I will not change myself to be one of you. This attitude comes with a price of course but I am so much more at peace with myself 🙂

That’s such a profound statement, Aishwarya! That is what we all must learn or at least a lot of us. And we do once the pressure of pleasing others in being someone we are not is getting to strong and we need a way to break out of it! What a liberation and yes, there comes a price with it… but so it does when we don’t break out! I rather pay the price for being me than being someone I don’t even want to be! Thank you so much for this wonderful comment!!
