Erika, a smile, a hello, or conversation can change someone’s outlook. My sister was told by her manager to talk less to customers. She received nice compliments from her customers for her friendliness. To accommodate her manager, she talked less, but still talked to them.

This vignette reminds me of a story about a manager wondering why a line of customers were checking out at one register instead of going to others. A teen with Asperger’s who bagged groceries took to heart a comment made by the visiting CEO. He said you are the company, so treat our customers well. The teen worked with his mom to make little sayings of well wishes which he put in each customer’s grocery bags. People lined up for those well wishes.
