The Time of Year!

It’s Christmas Day, and I felt like gifting you something special from our community. Many of you may know Colin. Colin knows my love for music very well and often shares some songs with me that are probably not so well known. A couple of weeks ago, he shared some Christmas songs and a Christmas poem he wrote with me. Unfortunately, due to other priorities, Colin has not the time to make a post on his blog. But he left it up to me to share the songs and the poem if I want to.

I thought today was the perfect day for spreading the word and music. Both are rather thought-provoking. But I think the past two years have made us get back to the core of the Christmas message anyway. May we never forget that Christmas is not a season but an attitude that should be vividly active throughout the year.
There is no more to say, but a big thank you to Colin for choosing my blog to share his poem and song suggestion.

The Time of Year!

Christmas is coming so very soon.

What are your plans for this time?

What is your idea of good cheer?

To eat and drink?

Think of family and friends?

But… why only at this time of year?

***

You’ll buy this and that.

Perhaps “Thinking of You” cards,

For people so very dear.

You’ll share time together,

And have many laughs

But… why only at this time of year?

***

The time of year for giving,

To a local shelter perhaps?

Poverty and despair are so near.

Street kids, abused kids, exploited and used kids

Maybe on your mind,

But… why only at this time of year?

***

Poverty is year round.

Abuse and despair the same.

What else do you need to hear?

You are so giving around now,

And presumably willing,

But… why only at this time of year?

***

You will celebrate this season

Being generous and kind.

Maybe smile at strangers without fear,

But once the season has passed,

Hopefully you will ask

“Why only at that time of year?”

***

This time of year, regardless of belief,

Is a time for compassion and sharing;

For revelations so crystal clear;

For knowing that you are able to help,

Perhaps only in a small way

But… why only at this time of year?

***

At this time of year… this year,

Think… do you really care?

When you see desperation so near,

Are you prepared to share?

But … why only at Christmas time?

Why not throughout the whole year?

First Christmas – Stan Rogers

On this occasion, I want you to know that I will take a break until Three Kings Day – first of all, to spend some quality time with my family away from social media, and maybe I even get to my book again and take my draft to the next level.

Have a blessed Christmas Day and wonderful rest of 2022. See you next year!

Dear, Keith, thank you for your beautiful words. You know, that your comments always mean a lot to me. You are one of those who never leave empty words just to leave a comment. Whatever you say, is an additional inspiration and view on many things. Thank you for that, Keith. I am glad we are connected and I hope that one day, I can take your offer and visit you and your wife.
Btw. we are safe and warm. Other than what you have been going through over the past few days, we are having unusually mild temperatures close to 60°F. Our friends in Buffalo are having a hard time facing that super blizzard. I hope are well!

Thank you for sharing Erika. Thought provoking poem. I think its strength, this time of year, breaks through that ‘life’ cycle of stress and strive so we at least have something special to look forward to as the year goes by. If it was everyday it would lose that…plus…could we afford it? In its own stress that is, and the cost. But what a thing to be measured by. Maybe Christmas has already been lost, with its purpose of celebrating such a profound love…to one of who has the best gift. May we see that, and at the least, give it some balance as Val would say…to give a little to spend a little too. Great post dear lady, may your time be balanced as you have, with family and those that you love. A heart in anything always has a smile. Enjoy and love the New Year unfolding, and the old one blessings as it leaves us a little wiser, a little more loving and most certainly with great heart. Take care my friend 😀❤️🙏🏽🦋🎅🏽🕊🎄🎁⛄️

I agree with your thoughts, Mark. I think the lost idea of Christmas is more and more coming back. We had that times of overconsuming and right those showed us that the loveliest of Christmases are those when we make an effort to make the day special for everyone and to have presents that are saying: I did think of you and your needs. It is the light that comes back and warms our hearts, the desire to make others smile and brighten the day of one another. It is in realizing that only in giving do we receive.
Thank you for your wonderful comment, Mark. I hope you spent a lovely weekend and may you slip safely and joyfully into the new year💖

All true dear lady, even if the consumerism is so high it is that light within us that still holds us and our beliefs regardless. As for my crazy weekend, I live in a very popular destination and the usual 15, 000 swells into about 50,000 for the 6 weeks of the School break. To just go get a loaf of bread turns into an interesting experience. Even the lovely calm waters of the lake turns into a cacophony of boats, sailing, motorized, jet skied, paddle boarding, swimming bodies…even all the dogs are out paddling 🤣 …but…it really, truly gives an appreciation of what we have when they all go. The peace and quiet is delightful and we do indeed slip delightfully into a new year 😂❤️🙏🏽

Oh, that sounds anything but a quiet and silent “night” 😂 However, it proves that your must live in a beautiful area. Wishing you a happy new year, Mark 🎉
