Today, my Monday post will be a little different – fewer words yet a lot of food for thought I think.
Recently, I stumbled over a poem by an Austrian poet, Erich Fried. It is the first time I have come across it, although it seems it is pretty famous. However, it made me think again of how often – or even – how constantly our mind disturbs a natural flow that would make us deal with life much easier. Still, we need that distracting mind to understand its distraction and find our way back to unconditionality. Because that’s where freedom and peace live – and it’s a place in us.
To me, it felt like the last sentence of each stanza did not wipe the lines before away. It let them be without judging while making them meaningless. What do you think or feel about it?
Englisch Translation:
What It Is
It is nonsense, says reason
It is what it is, says love
It is misfortune, says calculation
It is nothing but pain, says fear
It is hopeless, says insight
It is what it is, says love
It is ridiculous, says pride
It is reckless, says prudence
It is impossible, says experience
It is what it is, says love
In Love and Light

Powerful words. ‘It is what is it’ are loving words, as they close down the inner chatter and chaos and gift peace and space. Great poem, Erika. Thanks for sharing. Xx 💕😘

That’s a great poem. I managed to read about 50% of it, so needed the translation.

50% is not bad! I am impressed, Gary! When I read it the first time, I knew that I had to share it. It is so special and powerful in its simplicity.

It’s a beautiful poem! A little bit brainwashing, maybe. Lol But in the best way ever. 🙂 Thanks for sharing, and also mentioning this great poet. xx Michael

It is brain washing indeed, It empties the mind and takes ego’s grip which makes room for inner harmony. Thank you, Michael.

Ah well posted Erika, it describes the human condition perfectly. And in between love trying to call us but barely heard in that racket of life. Great share, I think that one deserves a prominent spot somewhere in our hearts to remind us 😀❤️🙏🏽

This poem shows so well the “personality” of love. It simply is… not more, not less. Thank you very much, Mark. I knew, you would like it 😊

Within those few words.. ‘ It is what it is’ are profound.. and we have no concept of why all other emotions have to be felt..
The ALL is encompassed within our Experience.. We cannot feel one without the others, or we wouldn’t know the difference between Love and fear..
Love the poem share Erika…
We both have read such a lot and understand deeper level of insights, but our Human compassion often can not comprehend that ‘it is what it is’, because we want to find reasons, or rationalise the why’s and wherefores.
Thank you so much for sharing, very thought provoking.. ❤
Much love Erika.. ❤

That’s exactly what comes in our ways: the need to understand, for our inner peace, or whatever. I think it is a very long way to arrive at the level and inner state of “it is what it is”. We can be there when we step back and look at it right that way. But often times, our emotions, coming from reflexive thoughts, are faster. Still, we cannot remind ourselves often enough.
Thank you very much, dear Sue. It is just a small phrase but it holds so very much💖

Sometimes it’s the simplicity of words which hold and project the most meaningful truths.

Yes, simply life, being there for us to develop and experience ourselves… simply life.
