You Take Me As I Am

I think the most wonderful way
To be just who I am
Is how you do believe in me
And show me that I can

A setback is no failure but
A reason to find ways
To stand up, try it anew and
Lift above my mind’s maze

You are my net, my double floor
Your arms are always there
To catch me when I’m ‘bout to fall
You show me that you care

Whatever goes through my weird mind
Or when my soul feels strained
You always take me serious
You take me as I am

Erika, this is marvelous. I think the close to the first stanza leaps off the page. Just believing in someone makes all the difference. You are on his or her team.

I was reminded of a story of a father who had Alzheimer’s. His daughter (who told the story), said she went to visit him and found him in the Long Term Care unit’s lobby with other guests, so she quietly sat on the couch beside him as he watched a singer. When he finally noticed her, he got very excited and said “You are on my team!” He could not define her relationship or remember her name, but he knew she was on his team.

Wow, that is amazing. He did recognize her and now much happiness it must have brought to both. Yes, indeed, unconditional love says, you are in my team, no matter what.
