A couple of weeks ago, I discussed the negative feelings about Mondays with a friend. We were talking about why Monday is connected to something negative. My friend said it was because the relaxing stress-free weekend was over and people had to return to a job they really don’t enjoy. Of course, hanging around without appointments, sleeping long, meeting friends, or enjoying a trip somewhere is fun. But doing it for weeks, months, or years without having a task to fulfill, would that be fulfilling? We all have a purpose to fulfill. Sooner or later we would become discontent.

I thought this would make a fitting sequel to last week’s post: Stop Excusing – Start Changing!
When something we don’t like happens, it is a natural reflex to show resistance. But in showing resistance, we give power to what we resist. If we are against something, we concentrate on what we are against. So, we feed something that we actually want to dissolve. How shall this work out? If I am afraid of something, I cannot get it out of the way by saying “I don’t want this, I don’t want this” because “this” is the subject that gets stuck deeper and deeper and becomes more persistent. My fear only grows because it seems to completely surround me. Resistance makes the problem bigger.

I often hear about how companies should make an effort to motivate their employees or to provide conditions to motivate their personnel. Lately, I came across this again and it made me ponder. I think this is a misinterpretation of the meaning of the word “motivation”. Because that way, people are actually manipulated or paid off to do something they don’t want to do. In my opinion, the meaning of the word is used wrongly.
