The purpose of my blog is to inspire and shine a light on the beauty and power of the wonderful being inside your body. You came into this world to share what only you can give. Remember who you really are, conquer the world the way you always wanted to, and become the blessing to all of us that you were meant to be.

Erika, a mentor of mine spoke to this issue a little differently. He said look at each issue as it fits into the whole picture. He called it a holistic view of issues. In this way, you can avoid an unnecessary or costly change. Keith

I like that, Keith! It says something similar with a different approach. When you take a step back you can see more of the context, an issue is surrounded by and how the issue can effect the context. That’s why looking at the bigger pictuere is so important. We recognize more in a situation than we first thought and an apparent issue might even dissapear, changes its face, or feels less in its priority.

Erika, well said. Where it came into play for us is when advising a client on specific changes to a benefit or compensation scheme. Questions like how competitive a package do you want to provide to various employee groups, what is your comparative peer group for each (i.e., who do you compete with for talent), how much variability in the package do you want relative to profits or some other benchmark, etc.? So, the whole package is important to consider as budgets are not infinite. Keith

That’s a fantastic example. You are always good in providing such real-life examples that make the topic easier to understand. Thank you, Keith!

Thanks Erika. The initial architect of this holistic approach was a very heavy set man who was speaking on the final afternoon of an internal seminar. No one was listening as they checked flights. He slammed the podium and said to the audience, “Look at me. No one hires me for the way I look! This approach works, so if you want to learn it, pay attention.” The audience was rapt from that point forward. Keith
