#HitsByYears – 1985 #1

Welcome to another #HitsByYears week. Two years ago, we started with my birth year, 1970, and, meanwhile, we arrived at one of my favorite music years within my favorite music decade. This time the choice was the hardest for me. I reduced my already limited list to 25 songs which was already difficult. And from that, I whittled down the list again to a maximum of three songs per day. So, unfortunately, you won’t find “Take on Me”, “Rhythm of the Night”, “Burning Heart”, “The Power of Love”, or other great hits of that year. But I hope you like the ones I am going to share over the coming days.

Running up that Hill – Kate Bush

A View to a Kill – Duran Duran

This is not America – David Bowie & Pat Metheny Group

I hope you like my choices. I know there are so many more famous and great songs that are worth being shared. However, please feel free and share your personal favorite song of 1985 in the comments. Since all of the songs you find here have already been scheduled in advance, you may still find your favorite in a later post anyway.

80s, Hits by years

Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush is a great choice, Erika. And I see it hit the charts again this year because it was featured on the Netflix show ‘Stranger Things.’ I’ve not watched that show, have you?

Yes, exactly, it is always a cool thing to see these songs coming back. I listened to Kate Bush’s song lately and though what a special one that was. Later I noticed the cover for the Stranger Things series.

Love these choices. Can’t pick a favorite from the three of them. Each has its own embedded evocative touchstones. A solid year for rock. You were born in 1970, so you were young when these were released. I was almost thirty by then so hearing these tunes definitely lift me up and carry me back. Cheers

Yes, I was half you age. As you said, they take you back and I am glad that they do that in a good way. The 80s were a great decade for many. Thank you very much, Michael!

Hi, Michael, thank you. Yes, almost back at normal. I had to go with a song week first – just too little time, but next week, my regular posts are back. I am glad you liked the picks for this first day. I hope the next will fulfill the mission too… hehe.

Yes, one that comes to mind instantly. Who knows, maybe it shows up. I scheduled this song week about three or four weeks ago… and the songs are surprises for me now too… lol

brothers in arms (dire straits) and head over heels (tears for fears) are two of my favs from 85, but I love your choices, especially a view to a kill –

Great picks, especially the one from Duran Duran! It was definitely a good song choice for the eponymous 007 movie — the last one from the late Roger Moore.

(And “Running Up That Hill” too! It’s experiencing a resurgence nowadays, thanks to Stranger Things.)

Yes, lately, I heard the cover of Running up the Hill. It is this one-of-a-kind song that stands out. Roger Moore was my favorite Bond and I loved Duran Duran 🥰
