Funky Soulmates on Stage

I’m getting back to you today with an extra post. I helped out in a band for a gig last Saturday. Helping out because one of the two lead singers left last November, and a second one got necessary. If you look at the videos, though, you’ll only see one singer – me. Because the other singer got sick at short notice and couldn’t join the event. How ironic… lol. So I changed the concept of the songs, learned all the extra lyrics and different voices within a few days, and … everything went well!

#HitsByYears – 1985 #5

We arrived at the last day of a week that could have been filled with so many more songs of a fantastic music year. So here we go with the last three songs for this #HitsByYears week. One of the songs was written by an Austrian artist and reached #1 on the US charts. When I visited Manhatten (as I mentioned yesterday), I bought the single of the American version and was so proud of it. I was the only one of all my friends who owned it. However, today I am sharing the original version here.
It was awesome digging into the hits of 1985 – when even I only shared a fraction of those many songs that brought up beautiful memories.

Today, I am sharing three songs that I listened to on my “walkman” when I visited the US for the first time in my life. The walls in my bedroom were covered not only with posters of Michael Jackson but of New York City. And here I was, standing in awe for the whole time to be at the place I had been dreaming of for so long.

#HitsByYears – 1985 #1

Welcome to another #HitsByYears week. Two years ago, we started with my birth year, 1970, and, meanwhile, we arrived at one of my favorite music years within my favorite music decade. This time the choice was the hardest for me. I reduced my already limited list to 25 songs which was already difficult. And from that, I whittled down the list again to a maximum of three songs per day. So, unfortunately, you won’t find “Take on Me”, “Rhythm of the Night”, “Burning Heart”, “The Power of Love”, or other great hits of that year. But I hope you like the ones I am going to share over the coming days.

Let’s continue with the hard choices of this fantastic music year! You will find famous songs that are still played on the radio today, and others that may have been forgotten over the years.

When Doves Cry – Prince & The Revolution

It’s A Hard Life – Queen

Let’s Hear It For The Boy – Deniece Williams

I know there are so so so many more famous and great songs that have shaped the history of music. I hope you like my choices. However, please feel free and leave your personal favorite song of 1984 in the comments. Since all of the songs you find here have been already scheduled in advance, you may still find your favorite in a later post anyway.

Since I have not had much time for scheduling posts after I returned from my vacation week, I will go with another #HitsByYears week. I am sure you don’t mind. Meanwhile, we have arrived at one of the greatest music years of the 80s – at least in my opinion. It was hard to break the songs down to a maximum of three per post. You will find famous songs that are still played on the radio today, and others that may have been forgotten over the years.

#SongTuesday

The following song is one of those I would have loved to add to my latest #HitsByYears week. So, here we go with another song that takes me back to 1983.

Baby Jane – Rod Stewart

In Love and Light

#HitsByYears – 1983

The last day of digging songs from 1983 has already arrived. That is why you will find again three songs instead of two. There are so many other stars who produced unforgettable hits, like The Pointer Sisters, Paul Young, Culture Club, Kiss, Lionel Ritchie…. But of course, this week cannot miss a certain duet of two of the greatest. I hope you enjoyed this little journey through another great year of music.

#HitsByYears – 1983

The two songs I’m going to share today I barely heard again after they played nonstop on the radio in 1983. It was absolutely time to dig them out again. I always particularly liked the Slade hit, just a real earworm. I was 13 years old and didn’t really pay attention to the lyrics. But when I listened to My Oh My again, it touched my heart even more because the message is so important and timely right now.

#HitsByYears – 1982

Last but not least, there are three more musicians who were not only big in the 80s but already in the 70s. I am not telling too much since you know all of them very well. As I said, I was trying to find songs that were popular but have become forgotten treasures. I confess that this is not the case with the last song but… that one had to be! 😉

The first song today is from a band I only remember because of that one song. I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks to my not going with the still popular 80s songs, I found it. The second one is another classic which I have not heard in ages. Do you remember both songs?

You know Amadeus of Falco. He recorded a version for the US in 1985 and reached number one on the charts with that version (as the first Austrian musician). But Falco’s first big hit was in 1982, and the last time I was in the States (which is quite a while ago), I heard an English version of that song. I thought, why not sharing the original today. The lyrics are German but also in Viennese dialect.

In this song series, I am trying not to share the hits that are still played on the radio stations. I rather dig out the forgotten ones which many of you will remember and loved listening to. Today, we are going with two songs which are from two of the greatest musicians in my opinion which I haven’t heard in ages.

Again, time for writing is rare and I decided to treat me you guys to another week filled with music from a great era. Once I found myself in the middle of an ocean of amazing songs, I thought it would have been less effort to write my regular posts… lol… but what can we do? It’s the 80s, and the choice of songs only grows with each year. So I decided to share two songs in every post. I am positive that nobody minds it 😉

#HitsByYears – 1981

For the last day of the 1981 week I am sharing two songs. The first one is a song that goes well along with the inspiration I try to share on my blog. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from pursuing your dreams, certainly not yourself. There may be interruptions and constructions along the way. But as long as your dream burns in you, it wants to be lived. Maybe you need to adjust the sails or check your GPS as long as you hold them tight.
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who celebrates it!

Today’s song takes me back to the summer of 1981. Like every year, we spent most of the summer break in Vienna. I remember this song playing whenever we turned on the radio in the morning. So, this song is always lifiting me up since it reminds me of fun, summer, sun, and unburdened joy.

There would be so many more great hits to share, but that is a bit of the thrill that keeps the suspense higher. So, I will conclude this week with only two songs. One is what we call a one-hit-wonder with lots of cover versions, and the other one is coming from one of the greatest musicians of this time. I hope you liked my choice. Have a great Friday!

It was confusing because some sources said it was released in 1980 and some in 1979. However, I thought it won’t hurt to listen to this gem. Happy Romantic Tuesday, everybody!

#MomentsOfJoy

I checked YouTube for some joyful videos. I simply put in the word JOY, and the first thing that popped up was an 80s boy group. I remember their song and it made me giggle instantly. It sounds like they hardly tried to imitate Modern Talking – obviously not very successful. When I checked out the video, I immediately decided to share it today. The song, the video, everything is so constructed which gave me such a good laugh. I could not remember how bad it was. I thought this must be the most embarrasing 80s song 😂 Do you know a worse one?
However, I hope it gives you some joyful moments😂

#RomanticTuesday Song

I was 16 when I went to London for the second time in my life. Not only London was special but the fact, that my best friend went along. It was her first trip to a foreign country and that even with a plane! However, on my way back I had some singles (remember?) in my suitcase like Breaking Up My Heart (Shakin’ Stevens), Material Girl (Madonna), and the one below. Who remembers?

Lately, I was reminded of Frank Stallone. I don’t know how many albums he published. But I remembered a handful of songs I really loved during the 80s. They Still Rock!!

IMG_20190706_223344.jpg

Last Saturday I had tickets for Status Quo. They were the main act at an annual festival in our country. Of course, they look older BUT boy did they bring the hall to a full boil! It was already a hot day and hot inside but nobody cared. We jumped, danced sang, clapped our hands, … It was an amazing experience and I felt like a teenager again hearing those songs again.
