We arrived at the last day of a week that could have been filled with so many more songs of a fantastic music year. So here we go with the last three songs for this #HitsByYears week. One of the songs was written by an Austrian artist and reached #1 on the US charts. When I visited Manhatten (as I mentioned yesterday), I bought the single of the American version and was so proud of it. I was the only one of all my friends who owned it. However, today I am sharing the original version here.
It was awesome digging into the hits of 1985 – when even I only shared a fraction of those many songs that brought up beautiful memories.

Today, I am sharing three songs that I listened to on my “walkman” when I visited the US for the first time in my life. The walls in my bedroom were covered not only with posters of Michael Jackson but of New York City. And here I was, standing in awe for the whole time to be at the place I had been dreaming of for so long.

Welcome to another #HitsByYears week. Two years ago, we started with my birth year, 1970, and, meanwhile, we arrived at one of my favorite music years within my favorite music decade. This time the choice was the hardest for me. I reduced my already limited list to 25 songs which was already difficult. And from that, I whittled down the list again to a maximum of three songs per day. So, unfortunately, you won’t find “Take on Me”, “Rhythm of the Night”, “Burning Heart”, “The Power of Love”, or other great hits of that year. Since I have not had much time for scheduling posts after I returned from my vacation week, I will go with another #HitsByYears week. I am sure you don’t mind. Meanwhile, we have arrived at one of the greatest music years of the 80s – at least in my opinion. It was hard to break the songs down to a maximum of three per post. The two songs I’m going to share today I barely heard again after they played nonstop on the radio in 1983. It was absolutely time to dig them out again. I always particularly liked the Slade hit, just a real earworm. I was 13 years old and didn’t really pay attention to the lyrics. But when I listened to My Oh My again, it touched my heart even more because the message is so important and timely right now.

I remember, recording the first song on a new cassette first, along with three other songs. I listened to all three several times, although I had to rewind and rewind and rewind…
The second song is one of my all-time favorite Toto songs, and always will be.
Since there are so many wonderful songs in that year, I’ll add a third one. Although it was sung by a legend, I don’t think the song was recognized as it deserved. But it’s definitely one of my favorite Bowie songs.

I was supposed to spend the last weekend in Vienna. Unfortunately, plans changed a few hours before we wanted to leave due to my husband’s positive Corona test (he is fine, no worries). However, since I expected not to have the time for writing my regular posts, I scheduled another week of my #HitsByYears” series. You may not find the most popular songs of that year like “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics, “Holiday” by Madonna, or “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel. Instead, I tried to dig out some songs we loved but which we may have a bit forgotten over the past almost 40 decades (what? 40? 😱). Enjoy the trip back to another great year of music:

You know Amadeus of Falco. He recorded a version for the US in 1985 and reached number one on the charts with that version (as the first Austrian musician). But Falco’s first big hit was in 1982, and the last time I was in the States (which is quite a while ago), I heard an English version of that song. I thought, why not sharing the original today. The lyrics are German but also in Viennese dialect.

Happy Romantic Tuesday! Who remembers Rita Coolidge? When I hear her name, I think of All Time High which was the soundtrack for the James Bond movie Octopussy. It was the first Bond movie I saw. That might be the reason why I liked Roger Moore playing Bond the most. But today we go with an older song of Coolidge. It is new to me but I am glad I found it. Enjoy

I checked YouTube for some joyful videos. I simply put in the word JOY, and the first thing that popped up was an 80s boy group. I remember their song and it made me giggle instantly. It sounds like they hardly tried to imitate Modern Talking – obviously not very successful. When I checked out the video, I immediately decided to share it today. The song, the video, everything is so constructed which gave me such a good laugh. I could not remember how bad it was. I thought this must be the most embarrasing 80s song 😂 Do you know a worse one?
However, I hope it gives you some joyful moments😂

Due to the filled weekends and evenings after work of the past weeks, I am not able to catch up with my own schedule. Either I have been busy renovating the house, preparing for another upcoming move, I was simply off or preparing family events. This threw me completely off my usual posting habits. That’s why I need to take this week off from the regular posts… BUT… I have had the idea for a new song series.
