Mucking Out

Hi, friends. For quite a while, I have been watching the number that shows the already used GB. The distance until I reached my limit already got pretty narrow. So, I had the choice between upgrading or limiting my media library. I decided to go for the second option, although it was the one that was pretty time-consuming.

However, I thought it was a good (and long overdue) opportunity to sort out the posts of my first years here on WordPress. A lot changed in my blogging habits, and some posts don’t fit me anymore anyway. I took the easy way and deleted more or less everything that was not a Monday post until June 2018. Wow, that’s four years and half of my blogging time. I still don’t understand why I only got 1 GB down. But at least it provides some room again to post freely for a while again.

I thought I’d let you know, although I don’t think one of you starts scrolling back further than June 2018.

At one point, you have barely a different choice. You can see this in a greater context, I am on of those who love their comfort zone and only act when life kicks you out of it… lol

Good luck, Erika! It’s always difficult to sort out old things. Last week i found an old floppy disk with uni works. Now one of my clouds is filled with them too. 😉 It would have broken my heart deleting it. Lol xx Michael

I feel for you Erika, as I went through a similar overhaul a few years back.. My media library was nearly full.. So I reset the size of loads and I mean Loads of images, I hardly saw any difference.. So I deleted many images in those earlier posts.. I am at 62% right now…

My posts go back to 2007 and like you those earlier posts no one ever reads or takes time to search the archives… I have been considering for a while to revamp when I have more time..
You could always save your profound posting in your computer.. To perhaps use at a later date…
Sending Love and Light right back Erika xx ❤

That is the problem. I deleted more than 2/3 of the first 4 years (of 8 years in total). Those were the years when I used the most images. Still it only made one GB. In my excitment I accidentally even deleted my header image😂

Yes, that is why I deleted my poems and Daily Quotes. I have each one of them on my laptop. But yes, I will delete a few of my Monday posts too in a second attempt but have to safe them first.
So, thanks for your support Sue 💖

Writing in itself doesn’t take up much room, an entire book of 500 ages can be less than one megabyte. It’s the images that can seriously take up room. If your like me, in the beginning was just straight posts, it wasn’t until I got more ‘elaborate’ that I began to insert more goodies and use up more space. But please don’t disappear Erika, I’ll send you a few of my carrier pigeons or matches to do smoke signals if space gets too tight 😂 🤣 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

LOL! I definitely won’t disappear, Mark. I am not easy to get rid off… hehe. Yes, it is the images and the countdown was close to upgrading which I really don’t want to. So the only option was to delete as many meda as possible.

That’s right, reblogs fill the library without you noticing. I would not have thought how much stuff there is which I really don’t need anymore. I am glad I took the step to start this adventure but it will be a pretty long road until I am through checking the posts that are left. Still better than paying more money. Thank you, Holly💖

It was overdue, Sis. A lot of stuff, most of all of the first two to three years that had to be removed. I only needed the pressure to start it 😄Not done yet though… lol

That’s an excellent move, and a good piece of blog housekeeping, Erika, especially given that old out-of-date blog posts are not SEO friendly and can actually damage your blog if you keep them. You may have also gotten rid of many broken links in those posts you deleted, which will make your blog more user friendly.
It’s a ‘high-five’ from me.

Yes, exactly, Hugh. The need to get more data triggered a complete clearing out. As you said, a lot of links that are not even working anymore and most of all a lot of outdated posts that are not my think anymore. You were a lot on my mind during that process… lol. I needed to go through more months and I needed to check the remaining posts. But so far, I am done 🥵😂

It can be a lot of hard work, Erika, but well worth it. Readers and new visitors don’t want to read out-of-date information. Leaving it on your blog is a sure way of putting off potential new followers.
