Today we visited two museums. The Vasa museum and the ABBA Museum. The rest of the day was filled with shopping… yes, my daughter convinced us. Now I am completely done!!!
The Vasa Museum shows the ship, Vasa. Shortly after embarking on her maiden voyage in 1628, the ship foundered. It was a completely faulty design. The center of gravity was too high. Lots of people lost their lives. 333 years after the catastrophe the ship was salvaged. The ship is so big that I wasn’t able to get a photo of the whole vessel.
ABBA… nothing to add. It was great to get reminded to the amazing hits this group produced. There was never a scandal and when you look at their faces you see pure joy in their faces when making music.
Some more impressions of the city
Tomorrow we fly back home. Will be back on a regular base on the weekend.

It was very cool. That is a little island where many museums and a theme park are located.

That’s awesome! I went to Amsterdam once and just felt like I was immersed in culture! I loved it. Such a different feel than the US. 🙂

That is right. Amsterdam as many northern European cities (and their countries) are like the entrance into a completely different world. That is what actually makes whole Euorpe so interesting.

I took a bunch of pictures of the Vasa, but lost ’em. It’s magnificent, isn’t it? Stockholm was an interesting side trip, for all of the 1 day we spent there. It could have been far more. Looks like you had a great trip!

Hi Matt! Great you stopped by and read the post. Thank you! Yes it really is a very special city and some nice things to discover. I hope the photos of the Vasa were OK. You can copy them for you if you did not do it yet. 🙂

Thanks. I remember we did a tour of the city hall (also where the nobel prize dinner is held?) and then wandered around Gamla Stan, which is Swedish for “Tourist Trap.” I’m about 1/2 Swedish from both sides of the family, so I guess I look like them enough that they think I’m just a normal boring Swede. The streets were charming, we watched the changing of the Royal Guard, and then it was water taxi to the Vasa, which turned out to be worth the whole trip. The rest… I guess I’d have to have a better itinerary planned if I ever go back, good local food, meet some locals, that sort of thing. Cruise ship tours rarely have you intersect with the real world of the places you visit.

You really saw a lot within a short period. Wow. Of course you look at it differently since you are half Swedish. That is wonderful and interesting to know. Thanks for sharing your memories, Matt 🙂

Still can’t believe that it is that very ship with such a technical default that took so many lives. Atleast we get to witness it 🙂
Keep smiling 😀

Wow, what a beautiful city. I would love to see that ship up close and personal. Just salvaging it is amazing. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos from your vacation, Erika. No better way to end my virtual journey than with ABBA. A very catchy song indeed….

You would love it, I am sure. Perhaps one day you discover parts of Europe. This ABBA song is a very beautiful but not so popular one I guess. Glad you like it 🙂

I’m sure I would. From the photos, Europe looks quite beautiful and I know there is more beauty to see. I’m like the song, puts me in a good mood 🙂
