#JustAThought … I Don’t Have to Be Religious to Be a Believer

It may appear peculiar that I am quoting an excerpt of a horror novella. However, it caught my attention since it defines so well how I think. Am I a believer? Yes, 100%. Am I religious? Not at all. As I stated in my book, I’m Free, I don’t say religions are all bad. Their teachings can be the entrance to a world in which we get to know that there is more around us than we see, and more to feel than we can touch. Through religion, one gets inspired and has something to hold on to when going through hardships, and a community that shares the same belief, which can be powerfully encouraging and comforting.

We only entered another year, and still, wars are raging in this world. I think one of the reasons that we may think this world is in a downward spiral is that we have forgotten to see what we want to see. We see bad things happen and people doing bad things we don’t have any explanation for. But if we only see the bad in everyone now, how can we trigger something good in others? Skepticism, disbelief, and denial are reflexive attitudes that only feed that bad side. How can anyone be encouraged to look inside and dig out their good parts if only bad things are expected of them?

Lately, I stumbled over a different perspective on hope that made me think.

Believing is Seeing

This is more or less a sequel from last week’s post to show how a perfectionist’s mind can get you in the way. A couple of weeks ago, I had this profound insight moment. You know I have published my latest book in May. I have done a lot of marketing in different areas since. As a self-publisher, this is not easy, but a lot of work. Then, aside from kind comments on the related posts, it seemed as if it was not recognized. After a while, I felt some frustration building up and I noticed that something was going wrong. This is not how I want things to be. This is not who I want to be. This is not who I am. With the distance, I looked at everything, I was not surprised that such an attitude (the book is only one outlet of that inner concept) can lead neither to satisfaction nor to health.

In California, I bought a small book called The Five Levels of Attachment by Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. I have only read the first few pages, but again, my mind started spinning from everything that is falling into place like a jigsaw puzzle. Also, it makes a good addition to last week’s post “The Problems of the World need to be solved on the Level of Belief”.
