Unfortunately this is so true!

Realizing it helps to change at least our own behavior. Thank you!

Erika, many thanks for thumbs up and cite. Even the author is guilty of this from time to time. We must guard against it. Keith

I don’t think any one of us is innocent. But it is important to step back and think about this. That already can bring a change of mind. And your words support this development. Thank you, Keith!

Some have their mind already made up and are tone deaf when it comes to listening.

That’s exactly the point. Or they think they are untouchable and perfect…

And we know nobody is untouchable or perfect.

Right, step back and listen to help not to find more reasons to defend yourself.

It can hurt the one deeply who tries to explain their feelings.

We are usually too reactive, defensive…I think it cuts the nerve off from the comprehend part of the brain…a detour if you will 🤣❤️🙏🏽

Such reflexive behavior can be so painful for the other one. It is not about the person who goes into defense. It is about the one who tries to submit their feelings. But when the defender does not consider this the other one gets the feeling of being not important or worth enough to be heard.

I spoke to a lady yesterday with some emotional problems. I literally could not get a word in sideways and I actually could feel her wanting me to accept her. She had been brought up brow beaten and just wanted to be accepted and included, but in her reaction to that she in fact goes overboard and pushed people away…by pushing herself at people to get that acceptance. We create what we fear, but that is the journey, to see that love is within us and not something we have to beg, borrow or steal. And we will get there, it just takes a little while to see ‘us’ among it all. Great post Keith, and thank you Erika 😀❤️🙏🏽

So, that is a fantastic example of how we reach the opposite of what we actually want. The more we hang on to something the more we push it away…. the more we hold on to it, and so on… a viscious circle.
It is in stepping back and letting go of the identification with anything outside of us. That is the way to freedom and inner peace. It is always in letting go, never in holding on. Thank you, Mark 💖

This is so so so very true, and I am guilty of it as well! We should listen to comprehend, to understand, not simply to respond or rebut!

I think no one is completely innocent regarding this. But when we are aware of it, it already makes a big difference.

Agreed. It is only when we recognize and admit our shortcomings that we can work to overcome/repair them.

That’s the point. We are here for learning. That is what all our experiences are for. Our life would miss its purpose if we ingored the possiblities to develop.
