TGIF!! YAY! This is the first weekend of Advent over here. The first Advent is actually the official beginning of our Christmas season. As a tradition we are lighting one more candle on each of the four Sundays before Christmas on an advent wreath.

I have already scheduled my post for next Monday and I came across this song which fits it/me very well right now. It is not the original but I like the version and thought I’d go with this one this time. Have a great weekend, friends!

OH, this is exciting. We have a some what medium sized Christkindl market here in Atlanta. I am taking my sons to it to experience more of the holiday feel than going to Helen Georgia’s touristy feel. I will definitely keep up to date on your postings during Advent! Thanks so much!

I love Christmas markets. I think those would be one of the few things I’d miss in the States. They are so very atmospheric. I hope you and your sons will have a lot of fun and if they sell it, enjoy some hot punch or spiced wine (I mean you, not your sons… lol)😊

Im ready! I have been trying to teach them the difference between the angel and Santa, but its hard at their age. I have also been trying to get them started learning the language, but not being a fluent speaker myself we are learning together. This will be the first bigger sponsored market I have ever been to!

Oh, yes, Santa Claus and the Christkind. Two different symbols. When we moved back from the US we found a way to combine both. The Christkind brought the tree which was magically there over night…lol. And Santa broucht the presents.
This is really cool that you are connecting your boys with the family’s history. Wonderful, also that you want them to learn the language. Do you still have relatives in Germany?

Unfortunately I have traced as far back as to when they left Germany and one relative went to England and the other came to Virginia. Prior to that I could not find any records. Yes German is a very tough language. If my family region is accurate, middle German dialect would be the most common; However, grammar and choosing the appropriate gender specific words are the most confusing and pronunciation with my southern accent is hard to break! English is simple because its jumbled language of so many.

Oh, yes, I admire everybody who chooses to learn German as a foreign language. I don’t have any problems because it is my mother tongue but some people (mostly those who grow up with a dialict like in Liechtenstein and in Switzerland which differs a lot from high German) do struggle with the language anyway! Not the easiest of languages but not the most difficult either… lol!

Regarding the language? I think you simply need a good teacher and I think it also depends on how the language skill is developed. In the end, it is a foreign language and most languages have genders and a different grammar. Practice, practice, practice…

So, i am sorry for the late night question as we are 6 hours behind and its 830pm here. Where could I possibly look to see if any relatives were still in Germany. I traced the Mize family back to possibly Meisenheim. I have searched the internet, but dont know if my search engine is reaching that far. I think my computer is Americanized…..jk

I never thought about it. But perhaps you could ask at those local registration offices and contact/interview people you find out about who could give you further information. Or perhaps you could find out about a genealogist in Germany who could help.
