The song I am sharing today is directly connected with memories of my first trip to the US. I was 15 and we flew over to NYC as part of a travel group. It was the year 1985. For the younger readers, at that time we had neither iPods nor smartphones. But I had my walkman (what is a walkman🤪) and serveral tapes – most of them I dubbed of long-playing records o “singles” myself.
Long-playing records? Those black oversized CDs which you had to put on a turntable and play with a needle which transferred the sound. “Singles”? The smaller version. There was only one song on each side. Yes, records have had two sides and you had to turn the record when one side was played to the end. Also we had to be very careful not to scratch the surface or the song was ruined either by the needle jumping over that scratch or because it got stuck and repeated the same part over and over again. They were not as robust as CDs. We did not have CDs either at that time yet, by the way.
So, I remember sitting in that bus with my headphones on. We had visited Washington D.C. and we were on the way back. It was already dark outside and I simply enjoyed being there and listening to the songs on my tape. Read more ›
