The last part takes us from the Italian east coast back northwards and close to the Swiss border to lake Como. Rimini was about to awaken when we arrived. the beaches are still empty but you can tell from the installed umbrella holders what may be going on during the main season. Over a large part of the promenade, people were busy setting up food stands. The view from our hotel room was gorgeous day and night. We could even spot San Marino from our balcony. I would like to come back when there is more going on to feel the pulsing life, but I don’t think I was one of those lying on that beach together with thousands of others. The old town again is typically Italian and it is almost like one big market. I love that.

Did you know that Bologna has a leaning tower too? I had no idea until I saw it. There are four historic “Torre” in Bologna. Two are next to each other, and the smaller one of the two is really really really slope. It was even more challenging to catch that in a picture than in Pisa. Everything was very close together, and I could not find an ideal angle. But believe me, it looks weird. On a side note: we were lucky to receive an upgrade to our hotel room. We got a suite on the top level of the hotel. That was great because right when we arrived, there was a thunderstorm going down, and we could take our time until it was over and enjoy the room. Later the sun came back, and we could even sit outside for dinner.

Our last day took us to Bellagio at the picturesque Lake Como. As many of you may know, George Clooney has a villa at Lake Como in the small village called Laglio. However, the weather was not on our side that day, but we enjoyed it anyway. It made the atmosphere even more special and cozy. We spent our time in the old part of the village. There is only one narrow road (one way) leading through the city. The whole place is connected through stairs. That gives that village this original touch of former times. When we left the next day, we could only leave by ferry. Really special!

I am already looking forward to our next trip to bella Italia, hopefully, sooner than later.
