As promised, here I am, back with some photos of another picturesque place of this planet. This time, we stayed in a vacation apartment in a camping resort directly at the lake. It was a different kind of vacation, very uncomplicated and therefore even more relaxing and rejuvenating. The weather was gorgeous. We rented bikes and explored a part of the closer area, chilled at the pool, took walks at the promenade, and visited a few beautiful places.
To accompany the photos, I give you a song to support the atmosphere.
Gente Di Mare – Umberto Tozzi & Raf
The trip went quite well until about 7.4 km before the exit from the highway. Because of an accident shortly after that exit, everything came to a standstill. Three lanes turned into a huge parking lot. Nothing moved for an hour. Then finally the avalanche of cars started to move slowly. In the end, it took us 2 1/2 hours to cover the 7.4 km. But I’d rather stand in a traffic jam than cause it. And we got a chance to see a stunning sunset.
On our first day, we rented bicycles. We rode to the nearby village of Manerba del Garda and up to the Rocca di Manerba. It is an ancient fortress on a hill directly above the lake and town. Later we walked along the promenade from which you can see that hill where the fortress is located.
The next day we took the car and went to Bergamo. The city is a gem with its charming old town. Everything is cared for well and is very clean. Although there were quite a lot of tourists at that time, the Mediterranean vibes covered everything with its light, peace-, and joyful atmosphere.
When we left there, we decided to go to Sirmione once again. We were already there four years ago. The place is so original and atmopspheric that we wanted to visit it again. The village center can basically only be entered on foot. More photos of Sirmione and photos from the fortress can be seen here.
On our last full day at Lake Garda, we chilled by the pool, took another walk along the promenade, and enjoyed a cappuccino at one of the cafeterias. In the early evening, we took the car and drove along the lake to see where we wanted to stop for dinner. We stopped in Moniga del Garda. We had never been there before. It has a small harbor surrounded by restaurants. We left the car at the Rocca di Moniga del Garda. When we parked the car (the small blue one), we didn’t pay much attention to the building. But when we came back, we realized that behind these walls with the clock tower, there is a small medieval town. It looked as if time had stood still there for centuries. In the last photo, you can see why we decided to travel with our little Renault Clio and not with our Dodge Durango.
A last look down to Manerba, on our last evening. The dark area in the middle of the photo is the hill with the Rocca di Manerba. And the bright dot above is the cross you may remember from one of the first photos.

We love Italy and the area around Lake Garda. We’ll be back for sure.
