My dear blog sister, Ritu, of But I Smile Anyway has a beautiful challenge going through this Valentine month. Love is my favorite subject and how could I resist to participate as much as possible. If you want to check it out you find more information here!
When I read the title of Ritu’s prompt today the following quote immediately was in my mind:

This is something I always tried to provide for my children. I wanted them to know that whatever happens I am there for them but I also made it an effort that they are getting self-confident and simply go for what they want. Yes, it is hard when the moment to let them go has come. But it is the normal process. We don’t have the right to chain our children but have to do all that is necessary for them to be able to live their own life the way they want it to live.
When my daughter turned 16 she spent half a year in England. Everything was well prepared and I had no doubt that she would be doing great. Oh, and how she developed within those 6 months! About 14 months ago she moved in with her boyfriend. She was 20 and had already grown into a strong young woman who knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. I am proud that she took that step without hesitation when it felt right for her!
I think the most important attitude for a parent to provide both roots and wings is showing the child that they wholeheartedly trust and believe in them!
This year my oldest son is going to university and I already know for sure that he will be doing great!
In Love and Light!
Thanks for sharing 😊

Thank you, sis! I had the other example in my mother-in-law who let her kids develop themselves as long as it was for her benefit too… So thanks to her that got me even more going towards giving them roots in order to grow wings!

It is tough being a parent and knowing when to let go AND to prepare your children how to handle not only themselves but this world as well. I say good job, Erika!! I am really proud of you!!! (((HUGS))) ❤

It is! It is a walk on the edge all the time (reminds me of the serenity prayer). I made so many mistakes regarding raising my children which I see much clearer today but I think at least that I did right!

Erika, there is no manual on Life or child rearing. You did your best. Period. As you see your children today as they are living their lives, know that you are instrumental in that and be proud of what a great job you did! 🙂 ❤

I am sorry, Amy! I just released you from the spam prison!
We can only do what we think is best. Even when we are overwhelmed by life sometimes in that very moment we thought it was the best. So, looking back we are always smarter. At the moment it doesn’t look too bad and the kids and I have fun and a really good relationship. I guess the best proof is when the still come to visit or also like to stay at home! Thank you, Amy ❤

I absolutely believe so! Our duty as parents is to prepare our kids for living their own lives…. and not our dreams or fears!
