Freestyle Writing Challenge

Merryn of When You Walk Through The Waters invited me for the Freestyle Writing Challenge. She did an amazing job. Not only that she made 613 words. The story even made sense.

The rules are:

  1. Open a blank document.
  2. Set a stop watch timer to 5 or 10 minutes, whichever length you prefer.
  3. Your topic is at the foot of this post BUT DO NOT SCROLL DOWN TO SEE IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY WITH YOUR TIMER!!!

Describe one of your funniest experiences on public transport…

This is the topic, Merryn gave us. Oh wow! I have to say that it is long ago since I was travelling public. I love my car and I love to be independent. But I there definitely are experiences in public transportations.

In Vienna we always go with the public transportations. Once, I was about 10 years old, I was sitting in the tram and the seats had a distance to its backrest. I wasused to put my feet up on the chair in front of me. But because of the distance I slipped through and kicked an old lady in her butt…. oh well!

When I was in an airplane before I overcame my anxiety of flying I must have been fun watching by others. At take off my eyes were focused on a point in front of me, my fingers clawed into the arm rest and my whole body was one tensed muscle. The same game when we were landing.

When I was 17 we took the ferry from Greece to Italy. Although I had a sensible stomach the rough sea did not affect me… but many others. I loved to go up for breakfast and make jokes about the food while others were sitting there with green faces… lol

Word count: 220

Time: 8 minutes

Definitely not a good result. But I hope at least you got me… haha!

You made me laugh out loud! πŸ™‚ You kicked butt ha ha! I had an image of a kitten stuck up high in a tree, fur on end and tail fluffed up in fright when reading about your anxiety on planes ;). Are you better at flying thesedays? I have that kind of anxiety driving on freeways. Well done and thank-you for accepting my writing challenge πŸ™‚ .

I had fun doing it. And I am glad you enjoyed my participation. I guess the anxiety of flying was the first big one I overcame. I am not afraid at all anymore although I don’t like it at all when it gets bumpy. For 6 years now I am healed. I flew to California and back 9 times since then and towards other destinations too.

That’s fantastic you got over such a big fear. There’s hope for me getting over wasps then and freeway panic attacks :). I love the community we have here on WordPress. See you on here soon! πŸ™‚

You definitely can, Merryn. It sounds ridiculously simple but it really is only in the head! I overcame my fear because I was so excited about and focused on the destination that the fear dissolved. When something can simply dissolve it has never really existed. It is only about our focus.

I like that thought – it is where our focus is that determines whether our fear will overtake us. Instead of me focussing on “I could get badly stung” I could think of something better (still have to decide something to help – any ideas?). On freeways, I focus on “I feel stuck and I can’t stop for a while – I need to think about getting somewhere instead of feeling stuck somehow.

Yes, exactly! Think of the destination, look forward to what you are gonna do there, simply enjoy the ride, the sun, open the roof top, blast some music, make it an experience… πŸ˜ƒ

You know there is a big difference: You are Super Ritu πŸ˜‰ Haha… that is really courageous! I don’t know what my mother in law would have said…
It’s time for me to go to bed. Couldn’t help it and still typing onthe phone… haha… but I go now. Good night, dear sis, and a wonderful birthday tomorrow!
