The different Tidbit – The Stunt!

My parents’ house is up on a hill. That is not such a problem after I was able to drive a car in order to not be that separated from the fun areas anymore. The only problem was a long, completely straight and very steep street in winter.

I guess I was 19 at that time and it was a Monday in the late February. It snowed the day and night before and everything was thickly covered with snow. When I left for work that morning my father told me to take the off-road vehicle we had – a little Suzuki jeep – instead of my Honda CRX. The streets were completely icy. Actually I was used to these kind of conditions. I was driving a stick shift and therefore knew about the hand brake/gas game when the car is about to break away. I knew that under no circumstances I must use the regular break.

So I left home and soon after reached the dangerous part. I slowly entered the street. Although in a low gear the car became too fast for me and I carefully used the hand brake… bad idea! Immediately the car reacted and threatened to break out. I accelerated a little and had the car back on track… but I increased speed. Again I carefully used the hand break with the same result. The car got faster! I played that nerve-racking game several times and the jeep got faster and faster. Luckily no car was in a short distance in front of me. But down the hill I saw a car standing at the other side of the small street! No problem, since my way was clear… until that only one car further in front of me pulled over at the same level but on my side of the street. I was in complete concentration. My hands clasped the steering wheel. All is well, I thought, still enough room for one car to pass.

I was already close to the scene when the door of the second car opened up.

That was it!!! I could neither stop my car nor could I go round. I already saw me crashing into that car door and having someone injured.

The driver got off, I was right at that car. He closed the door and I passed…. I couldn’t believe how this all worked out within the twinkle of an eye. After a few meters my tension started to subside. My knees got weak although sitting and I had to stop the car at the next possible place for a moment. In my concentration I did not even honk. I simply forgot.

I thanked my guardian angel for always being with me.

Only recalling this event makes my nerves overreact again… or is it the imagination of my angel…
